There are always exceptions to every rule. And, if the Celtics were to win the NBA championship this year, it would be a huge surprise and one of those rare exceptions. As for those who say they "can" turn on the switch in the playoffs, that argument is equal to those of us who do not believe they can or will turn on any switch in the playoffs.
Or that there is even a switch to flip.

If the Celts are playing well they have as good a chance at winning the title as anyone else. But that's still about 1 in 5. There are no clear favorites this year.

My point about Olajuwon and the 1995 Rockets is whether or not, anyone on the Celts is gonna step up big time, and neutralize a large chunk of our opponents?

I think when Hakeem did that, the rest of the Rockets followed suit and they had a tremendous playoff run.

The likelihood of the Celts being able to "turn on the switch" isn't so preposterous.  What I think is less likely is that they'll be able to sustain having the switch on for 4 rounds of grueling playoffs.

This group has played in 6 playoff series together, 4 have gone the distance, and 2 have gone 6 games.  Even at their finest they haven't been able to sustain having the switch on within a specific series consistently.
Yup

Which to me makes it all the more possible for a fluke to happen (eg.: winning it all ;D)

hmmm...good point, 50% of the years that they've played consistently inconsistent they've won a championship.  ;D

so all they have to do in the playoffs is continue to play inconsistently and they're practically almost assured a 50/50 chance of maybe winning it all again.  Things are looking up.

When you put it like that, I'm getting bad shivers across my spine. Feels like a coin toss lol :D

its like waiting for Christmas morning, except there's an even chance that you could get a hangman's noose instead of a present

either way, I'd like to know now, so yeah, the waiting is hard

My concern with this team is not whether they can flip a switch or not, it's whether there is a switch to flip.

Yes, past history with this group tells us they have the talent and experience to be able to go a long ways if they turn it on. But what if there's electricity but no switch? What if what we have been seeing, more bad performances against good teams than good performances and even bad losses to bad teams, is indicative that this team just doesn't have the chemistry or make up any longer or the physical tools any longer to compete? What if the aberration was the 23-5 and not the 24-24 team we have seen since?

That's my concern.

Nobody knows if they will play well but IMO they've clearly shown that they're capable of it.

This year the Celtics have beaten the top 3 contenders: LA, Cleveland and Orlando at least once, and these 4 total wins are spread out across the season.

The Celtics have the 2nd best road record in the NBA.

I'm expecting a better home crowd in the playoffs. The noise (or lack there of) that I have heard on my TV from the Garden is pathetic - even when the C's play hard. Its makes me ashamed to be a Boston sports fan. Rich people who barely focus on the game drive me nuts. However in the playoffs they better bring it (and always have in the past).

The Celtics have the ability to consistently get a big lead on any team (of course then blowing it a terrible amount of times when the lazy play kicks in).

KG, Pierce and Ray - the core of the team are still going to want to play like lions in playoffs. And considering that they have played the regular season with a more conserved style, I think they've saved a little in the tank for the big push. Is it enough? Who knows!! No one knows! Not even the players do!

But it'll be fun to finally see what they've got and if anything happens when the switch is flipped.

Seriously ready for the playoffs. I have been waiting since the middle of the season in each of the past 3 years. Even in 08 I was getting sick of us blowing teams out!  :o
