he can block shots.

I think working with Cliff Ray and KG would definitely help the guy's career, but I have a feeling with Darko it's a personality thing.  He's a headcase.

He's a weird guy with a strong personality yet has a very soft game. Cliff and KG can't coach/teach HUNGER!

I thought this was pretty funny. Darko used to throw down hamburgers in the locker room before the knicks games because he knew he wouldn't play. Its a pretty funny image to me. Man I cant help but wish we could get him working with KG and Cliff Ray. The combination of those two would probably make him a solid backup. I know a lot of people think he is horrible, and maybe he is, but you have to admit he hasn't been put in the best positions with most of the franchises he has been with.

Why do people think KG and Clifford Ray can turn bad players into good or decent players. Everyone in the NBA is their own man. No one is thinking, "I'm playing with KG now! Time to step my game up!"

Yes. Agree about KG and CLifford Ray not being miracle workers.

However, Clifford Ray is regarded by many as the best big man coach in the league. Look at what he did with Dwight Howard, then Al Jefferson, and now Kendrick Perkins. Ain't no coincidence.

Well I think eating a hamburger before a game isn't the worst thing he could do. I kind of like the guy now. MMM hamburgers

I have to admit, reading that he ate hamburgers before the games was enough to get me to eat one today!

what kinds of toppings are we talking about? I had one with swiss and onions last night. It was pretty epic. Should this become the official hamburger thread?

I had a real talking to from a chef friend of mine not long ago. Basically he said a hamburger is not defined by how well you cook it, or the quality of the buns, or the toppings, but the hamburger is defined first and foremost by the quality of meat. I'm currently looking into finding some high quality locally raised grass fed beef. You know, the real dank stuff.

Yeah thats what the blond haired chef that does the TGI Fridays commercials says too.

You mean that weirdo with the spikey hair and annoying voice? I don't trust anyone that does TGI Fridays commercials.
Thats the wierdo!  I actually read an interview of him somewhere and he seemed pretty normal.  Obviously the hair is a gimmick.

does he do the dines drives through place? If so he did crazy burger, a great burger joint in narraganset RI. As for clifford ray, I do think he could help someone like Darko. Maybe he could not resolve the personality issue, but who knows. In a different situation big all could have been seen as a soft player that was not meant to be an effective nba starter. In fact he seems to be regressing to that in minnesota...

Well, if you've read any of my posts about Perkins you know that I'm not too high on him. And Jefferson and Howard would have been very good players even if Carlton Banks was their coach.

I suppose we will agree to disagree.

Guy Fieri is the one you guys are talking about. I watch his shows just to laugh at how much aof a db this guy is.

Actually, Toucher and Rich on the old BCN had him in their biggest db contest. Then they had him on their show and pranked him soooo bad. Check it out.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread, having stumbled onto a related SI article:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/paul_forrester/03/10/darko.notes/index.html#ixzz0hzU4wo4i

Some key quotes:

Quote
"When I look back now, this isn't how my career was supposed to look," said Milicic, who's averaged 5.4 points and four rebounds over nearly seven seasons in the NBA. "Being a defensive guy, all of this time not playing, that's not how I saw my career, that's not how I enjoy playing. That's why I've decided to take a shot and go back to Europe. I'm 24, I'm still young. So I can still be happy overseas."

Quote
"Everybody said this is how it goes in the NBA," Milicic said. "You've got to watch first, you've got to learn. It's all bull. I didn't learn anything by watching. There is no practice in the world even close to game situations. They're trying to keep you happy, trying to keep you thinking your time is around the corner, but it's a lie. You can't keep everybody happy. But I was in the flow and listened to them. And now it's too late."

Quote
"What changed me was Larry Brown," Milicic said of the former Pistons coach. "He is a guy who doesn't understand anything, a guy who can't understand what kind of player you are. Even if I made a shot, he'd tell me it was not a good shot. That took my mind off basketball. I got frustrated and wondered, If they weren't going to put me in the game, why was I [in Detroit]? So I started thinking of stupid stuff and began not caring about the game, not trying to get better."

Pride goeth before a fall. Sounds as though he might have realized that a little bit.
