Well I think you're getting at the main point here: KG is not healthy, so ownership is unwilling to take on future salary to try to win right now.

I can't say I blame them.  No healthy KG = no championship, and paying millions and millions of dollars to Sam Dalembert or Andres Nocioni or whoever so we can improve the team with K-Mart or Iggy makes no sense if we're not winning a championship.

ownership isn't going to add more contracts. i think they feel they paid the price and won a title...and ownership knows this team needs a lot more than they can afford to be legit contenders...looks like boston will be good enough to make the playoff but not legit title contenders...soon we will be the 2008 pistons

More like the '09 Pistons, only we didn't trade a major piece to get that bad.  The '08 Pistons actually made the ECF.

I think it's at least safe to say that we won't be the 8th seed and get swept in the first round.  Perhaps next year, though.

in a year or 2..i think it is a pretty close comparison. the big 3 are not even close to where we thought they would be right now

I agree; we're not that bad yet - although we are playing that badly over the last two months.  Hopefully that changes, though.

Still, even with the addition of Kryptonate I'd be extremely surprised (happily so) if the Celtics even made it to the ECF.
