Perhaps Danny wants to get in on the guys who are cut to shed salary for the end of the year in these salary dump deals going on.  Imagine if (for example, but not a good one for our needs) Cleveland trades Z to Phoenix, then Phoenix waives Z - Danny picks him up to a vet minimum to finish the season - something like this could happen

Also it's interesting a few FA pgs out there, Antonio Daniels, Brevin Knights seem like guys who may be able to take 5-10 minutes of NBA set up time?

Worst case, bring back Gabe (kidding, kidding)

If the Wizards buy out Drew Gooden, which has been talked about, he's a guy I would definitely try to sign for the vet minimum

I would then cut Sheldon Williams so that we could have a spot open for another signing
Pick 2 Knicks

PG: George Hill, Ty Lawson
SG: Ray Allen, Anthony Parker, Quentin Richardson
SF: Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, D
PF: Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, Jon Brockman, Dante Cunningham
C:  Nene Hilario,   Own rights: Nikola Pekovic IR: Kyle Weaver

Gooden could be a nice option - especially if we move Baby

Gooden would be a great option and could provide a much needed spark.

Augustin
House/ Tony
Daniels
Gooden/ Shelden
Rasheed

That bench ain't bad at all. We'd probably have to cut Giddens or Walker to make room for Gooden though

If we trade our expirings to the right teams we could get some of them back. Scal definitely, Possibly Eddie if he's on a non-contender, but i wouldn't trade TA because we'd lose his rights for the off-season.

We have an open spot already from Lester.

Gooden isn't an improvement over Sheed + BBD. His defense is too poor which negates the rebounding advantage and his scoring is just as (in)efficient.

I'd rather give the minutes to Rasheed.

  • LETS DO IT AGAIN!
Look at last year.
Does DA want to grab Mikki Moore again?
This all depends on who is available, and if they want to go to Boston.
I think if we got Joe Smith last year, we may have beaten Orlando in 7 games, but Joe wanted to go to Cleveland.

Then you get players that are traded and then cut, and just resign with the original team that traded them.

Waiting for cut players and signing them is a huge risk.

Larry Hughes would be a nice option at the vet minimum if he gets bought out.  Can't hit the broad side of a barn try as he might (and does), but he's got a very diverse skill set.  Good Marquis Daniels insurance.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

A vet PG like Knight or Daniels would be nice.  I'm not convinced either would beat out House or Marquis for backup duty.  However, it'd be nice to know they're there.

Our bench is actually very good. Rajon Rondo said it himself, the problem right now is the starters.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Starters are being overworked - if the bench were carrying them the starters would be at the 30 minute area not the 38-40 one ...

Starters minutes per game thus far this year

Rondo 36.9
Allen 36.7
Pierce 35.5
Garnett 30.6
Perkins 28.6

Where the heck are you getting that our starters are averaging 38-40 MPG

oh well ... the 37 minutes Ray averages is close enough ... they have managed Garnett's minutes because they have to and Perk's fouls take care of that.

The bench has been lousy most of the year - but if Daniels is healthy the way he has played most of this season - will help.  Considering how many miles Pierce and Allen have had (and what Allen has shown and how Pierce has not been healthy), a more Popovichian touch would be nice - granted Doc cannot afford it given the bench for most of the year.

We're relying on Ray Allen too much, even if the minutes don't show it.  He's our #2 scorer with the starters and our #1 scorer/ballhandler with the bench.  His failure to deliver in those roles at the same level he did last year, along with House's failure to support him as a bench scorer, is a major reason for the team's offensive struggles this year.

As good as Tony has been this year, he hasn't been able to score with Ray's volume.
