Does DJ Augustin offer more than Eddie House? Is he an upgrade in that role?

Yes. Absolutely. He has a very nice handle and a decent feel for the court.

Does DJ Augustin offer more than Glen Davis?

Probably about the same.

Does DJ Augustin offer more than any other prospective BBD trades?

Who knows? I feel like this trade might be agreed to in principle as a fall back plan for both teams.

Is it Danny looking for a future asset or is it Danny taking the best upgrade for this current team that he can get his hands on?

I would think both.

If Danny were to trade Glen Davis for DJ Augustin ...

Is it Danny setting the table for the future? Or is it Danny taking the best player available in the trade and the player who can make the largest impact on the Celtics this season?

I think it's just a coincidence that Augustin is young + has potential. Rather than a strategy for tomorrow. A pleasant coincidence but a coincidence all the same.

I think its a little of both.  I think Danny feels that a deal like that is win-win-win.

They get the best player in the deal.

They get a player who could be a better asset in the future.

They get value for a guy who has been a bit of a headache for the team.

So while you are right that the biggest motivation in that trade is probably just the value right now, I do think Danny looks at future value in any trade, and that weighs into it too.

For example, I think he would do this trade over a trade like Davis for Steve Blake, even though Blake is a better player than Augustin right now, it does not help them in the future, in case this season does end up as a washout.

One thing I worry about with Davis for the future is that these bigger guys that are 6'8" or under tend to lose what little athleticism they have(unless they are sir charles) and fade away.

My answers would be ...

Does DJ Augustin offer more than Eddie House? Is he an upgrade in that role?
Yes

Does DJ Augustin offer more than Glen Davis?
Yes, for this team, yes. Augustin can make a larger impact as the primary backup point than Davis can as the fourth big in the rotation. Overall, they're comparable in current ability with Augustin having more realizable potential (prefer BBD's potential over DJ if he dropped 40lbs but that is not happening).

Does DJ Augustin offer more than any other prospective BBD trades?
Yes, I think so.

I don't think there is any value on the trade market for Glen Davis.

Is it Danny looking for a future asset or is it Danny taking the best upgrade for this current team that he can get his hands on?
I think he's getting the best player -- in terms of current ability and prospective role -- that he can get his hands on.
