How come Rondo has become the god of the Celtics all of a sudden?

Yes he is an All Star, yes he is putting up amazing numbers, and he has one many games this year...

But it seems as though the ball is in his hands way too much.

It seems like our big three are not as happy as they once were.

Is it possible that Rondo's sudden stardom has either gone to his head or taken away from the ability of our three hall of fame superstars. I think so.

Not to mention Rondo getting torched by the opposing point guards. I really do not want to hear that Rondo is a premier defensive point guard in this league. He really is not, he is actually very lazy on defense. He is really starting to remind me of Allen Iverson on defense.

Surprisingly I hear nothing about it. Seems like everyone is drunk of the Rondo cool aid.

Rondo brought very little energy to game last night, but he certainly wasn't the heart of the problem.  In fact his defense on Collison for the majority of the game, especially the 2nd half was excellent.  Collison had 10 turnovers for the game and a bunch of ugly possessions when he tried to beat Rondo off the dribble.

Turnovers leading to transition buckets and House's D were the primary causes of Collison's point explosion.

If you're looking for a goat, set your eyes on Paul Pierce.  His worst game of the season, by far.

uh..he's the PG. he should have the ball in his hands alot.

Of all the people to harp on, i don't see how rondo is the target.

All the starters are playing like crap the last two weeks, but if you want me rank order of crappiness it's:

1. Ray
2. Kg
3. Paul
4. Perk
5. rondo

Ray and KG have been particularly brutal, though paul certainly made a case to move up the list tonight with that atrocious 9 TO preformance.

P.s when are you going to start the KG and Perkins thread?

I mean you've hit every other starter to deflect from ray, I expect they will be the next two losses, respectively?  ;)

Exactly.

Rondo does a solid job of dividing up the touches, he really is a pass first PG, even when he has an open shot. If his "sudden stardom" has gotten to his head, I think we wouldn't see him defer to Pierce as much in the fourth qtr as we do.

Perhaps the unhappiness you see in the Big 3 is them realizing they can't do the same things they did in their prime... a rude awakening tends to make people less than pleased.

Even as good as Rondo has been playing overall, he's also widely responsible for when we struggle. Just take a look at most of our games. We usually struggle to start the game, then Rondo decides to get aggressive and we usually build a good lead and start playing well. Second half comes along, and for some reason Rondo has stopped being aggressive and our offense struggles. At times he turns it up again, but it's usually too late.

This has been a problem for him throughout his whole career (a big problem with him during the past playoffs when we were trying to hold leads in the 4th). And it's still happening. He's gotten better, but this problem is still there.

When he's aggressive EVERYONE plays well.

It's a dynamic they have to solve. I don't think it's necessarily Rondo not being aggressive, but he's trying to get the rest of the team involved. Is it that Rondo doesn't want to take over, or that Doc wants the ball to go through the big three more or that the big three want the ball to go through them more?

And Rondo's defense wasn't perfect but it wasn't bad. Collison couldn't get past him most of the time without a pick and I think he scored more against Eddie than Rondo anyways.

This is the problem though, in order for Rondo to get everyone involved he doesn't have to stop being aggressive. Just the opposite, when he's aggressive a ton of opportunities present themselves, particularly with Ray Allen and Pierce in the perimeter, with KG with a pick and pop, and drawing the big man away from Perk as he penetrates for an easy dunk.

In all it's quite simple. Of course, he could as easily start being a ball-hog, but to me not being aggressive just to get everyone involve is an unacceptable excuse. He and Doc certainly need to make it happen.

Yeah Rondo is going to have to stay aggressive and keep carrying a bigger load than last night.  More penetation and dishing.  A couple years ago it wasn't as crucial because the rest of the team would pass the ball around and find the best shot.  Now there are a quite a few black holes who think they have to shoot every time they touch the ball(Perk, Wallace, Baby).
