Obviously, none of us know what's really going to happen. However, I think there's quite an argument for standing pat. When this team was nearly completely healthy (minus Baby) they were clearly a contender. Then Marquis went down, KG went down, Rondo missed a couple games, House got banged up, and then the latest Pierce incident. I don't think there's any reason that any of those guys can't get back to the way they were 2 months ago.
If that's the case, what's the real need to make a deal?
it isn't about the injuries with this team. there is a division in the locker room and the problems run deep. they were blowing leads when the team was healthy...and they continue to do it. i think the idea of them being able to flip the switch come april are in for a shock when they can't do it.
This is all speculation. We don't know how much dissension there is in the locker room. We know it's not ubuntu in there, but it hardly seems like the Knicks locker room of a few years ago either.
I agree the switch argument may not be valid, and even if it is, may not work. However, I don't think we can disregard the fact that before they were hit with the injury bug, they looked darn good. Now everyone is getting healthy. They have two months + of basketball before the playoffs. Whose to say that over two months of healthy basketball, they can't fix this? KG's hyperextended knee should improve, Pierce's foot should heal, and Marquis should be able to learn to play the backup 1 spot. If those things happen, the C's are still contenders.
I know they looked horrible in the 4th against Orlando. I could barely watch and was cringing the whole time. But do you think if Pierce was 100% that would've happened? He clearly was still slowed by his foot.
This team deserves criticism. However, I think it's wrong to think that it's impossible that they recover from their woes.
