I could have sworn I read after the Christmas game I think when  Rondo said that Pierce usually called the plays in the 2nd half and he had to do it since Pierce was out. Maybe I'm completely mistaken about that but if that is true it could explain the roller-coaster that our offense has been lately.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
That's definitely what it looks like from watching the games. I was going to point this out in the "Pierce = the blown leads" thread. The reason our offense stalls is because Pierce takes the ball out of Rondo's hand. Rondo has become much better at getting all the way to the rack, while Pierce isn't as effective. The difference between Rondo and Pierce making plays is Rondo creates open shots all over the floor and Pierce only creates 3 point jumpshots.  With the way our guys are shooting this year Pierce should be the one taking open 3's not creating them for others. Outside of House and Pierce we don't have one guy you could call consistent from 3.

This is actually a good point. I was wondering after Pierce set up Sheed for the 2 consecutive 3 pointers late in the game whether Rondo does a better job setting us up for points in the paint. Seems Pierce often creates looks for jumpers if he is not driving to the basket himself. Someone needs to pick one play caller and stick with it for 4 quarters because this current system really isn't helping the jekyll-and-hyde way we've been playing.

Good point. My sentiment is that anyone other than your point guard (s) running your offense is a disaster, unless that guy's name is Larry Bird.

I just can't think of many other off guards or small forwards that do it well. Maybe Wade and LeBron.

But when you have a guy like Rondo at the point, why on God's green earth would you have Pierce, avery mediocre ball handler and a very mediocre passer running the point / offense down the stretch?

Pierce should be running off screen or posting on the elbow where he's best.

And Ray Allen should NEVER have the ball at the top of the key tryign to get something going. Collossal waste of time.

Just give it to Rondo and let him handle it.
