I hope Ainge is looking for more than what Chicago has to offer, but this may be a fallback if other moves fall through.
Judging by your various recent posts, you'd rather trade for Kirk Heinrich than Iguodala? Is that fair?
Well, it depends on the rest of the package. If I have to take Brand along with Iguodala, then I would prefer Hinrich. If I have to take Salmons to get Hinrich, then I would not do the deal.
The Chicago deal is risky, not because of Hinrich but because Tyrus Thomas is an unkown quantity. He's very athletic, but so far he has been a disappointment in the NBA. And even if you think he has promise, you would have to negotiate an extension with TT for reaonable dollars.
On the other hand, with Iguodala you are taking on a huge guaranteed contract that hamstrings your cap flexibility.
All other things being equal, I would take Monta Ellis over Iguodala or Hinrich. But of course, all other things are never equal.
got it. i don't see iggy as the major hamstring you do considering the way PP and KGs giant contracts expiring over the next two seasons. he, rondo and perk will be making a combined $35mil or so -- not bad for a very solid core of 3.
he's younger than heinrich, more athletic than heinrich, a better defender, a better scorer and IMO a better passer. i'd be really comfortable having him on the team long term, and secretly i like the idea of a pricey one year rental of delambert -- talk about a scary back-up center. he remains an elite shot-blocker and rebounder. they'd be tough against atlanta (iggy's d on jj), tough against cleveland (iggy's d on lebron), tough against orlando (too much length for them) and tough against the lakers (ditto).
that said i'm not all that fond of the other pieces chicago would put into a deal. maybe thomas is in the rotation, maybe he's not. no interest in salmons either. both guys are infamously hard headed.
ellis is intriguing but dangerous, and i doubt he's traded for an expiring contract anyway...
