Scal's defense is like Giddens defense. Runs around, looks active but gets burned a lot. Sure he can play a good game here and there but overall he isn't very good.

I disagree with this completely.  The big difference is that Scal is almost always in the right position.  Giddens has a lot of energy, and can annoy guys one on one (just like Tony), but he always misses rotations.  Scal almost never misses rotations.

But even when in position the offensive player blows right by him. He is too slow for the 3 position and not enough of a rebounder or low post defender for the 4.

This just isn't true.  He is not beaten off the dribble anymore than anyone else, but he causes much more problems for the offensive players than most of the other perimeter defenders on the team.

Matchups or not, Scal is simply awful. I don't get the love affair people seem to have with him. He should be no more than an 11th or 12th player who only sees time in a desperate pinch or in blowout wins and losses.

Yep... I understood the "matchup choice" early in the game last night but seriously, with the way Scal was killing us on both ends, I don't understand why Doc didn't even put Shelden in the game for 2 minutes!

Scal missed a couple shots, but he played excellent defense last night.
He has to hit those shots though. Defenses force the ball into his hands when he's out there, if he doesn't make them ugh...

I liked his play overall, he just gives up too much rebounding and quickness to be anything other than a situational player.

Daniels injury sucks, especially with baby out.

Oh, I agree with this.  This is why he will always be a 10th man at best.  But I tend to think anyone who does not recognize the defense he plays against perimeter big men are either not paying attention, don't know what they are watching, or are blinded by their preconceptions based on the other holes in his game.

Doc is probably playing Scal over Sheldon lately because Scal stretches the floor more with his potential to make 3pt shots, that he is not making of late.Sheldon has proved so far to be the better rebounder and play better deefense of the two.

I don't like Eddie at point guard and I don't like Scal in the game. I have not liked it for 3 years but it will continue to happen as long as Doc is coach or until Danny trades them.

I dont know about last night, but I think Doc put Scal on the game against San Antonio to see the Battle of Redheads.  You know  when Scal was up against Bonner, Tommy was happy.

If Doc had better options I think we'd see them unfortunately.

So maybe Sheldon should take and miss more 3 points? ::) I would much prefer someone who I can count on to get some rebounds on a team that's getting their butts kicked on the boards, to a guy who might hit a wide open 3.

what didn't you read?..."that he is not making of late"is the key here.I rather have someone rebounding and playing better defense also.

Scal and Williams are very different players. Scal is playing more due to matchups. Right now he's the C's best bench player to cover perimeter oriented PFs.

Overall, Scal is the superior player, I think; but they serve so different purposes (play very different roles) that the comparison isn't much important. Scal isn't eating Williams minutes; Perkins and Wallace are.

i'd put scal over big baby..any player who can get mad enuff to smash his hand and cant play for months is not dependable....whats next for baby...get mad and kick a brick wall and break his foot? .scal shows up for work and plays hard..

LOL.  Sorry, I don't care what Baby did, Scal sucks.

Scalabrine?:  Hell I thought we traded him for the guy on the box of Lucky Charms, and a Forum Topic to bring back Gerald Green. [/b]   All I know, is that when Scal's salary is freed up,
no one will be asking for the Celtics to resign him, though I admit, he'll get as warm of a welcome in the Garden as Walter when he comes to watch the games!  God Bless Hank Finkel!  The Great Uncle to Brian Scalabrine
