it's spelt HEAR not HERE

hence, let's HEAR some trade ideas.
TP for you.  I'm so sick of simple misspellings.

Oh and it's "spelled" not "spelt".  Maybe I gave out that TP too quickly.

Okay, here's another trade that probably won't pay dividends this year but:

Boston sends Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine and Glen Davis

Sacramento sends Francisco Garcia, Donte Green and Sergio Rodriquez

Why would Sacramento do that?  They are supposedly high on Garcia (when he comes back anyways), and Sergio and Green fit in much more with what they are trying to do than the guys they get out of it.
Mostly the Kings do this to get out of Garcia's contract as they try to lower their longer term payroll. This team is in huge financial turmoil. Besides, Garcia is a SG/SF and the Kings are getting some great contributions from Tyreke Evans at the 2 and Omri Casspri at the 3. When Martin comes back they have a depth chart of:

Udrih/Evans/Rodriguez
Martin/Evans/Mason/Garcia
Nocioni/Casspri/Garcia/Udoka/Green
Thompson/May/Green/Thomas
Hawes/Brockman

Garcia, given the players that are playing in his absence and the friendlier contracts of those players, is a $5 million a year waste on the bench for the next three years. They are short of big men and they are short on big men with talent. Big Baby gives them a big that can play either position, has an outside shot, plays good defense, and is really a very good third big off the bench who could play with either Hawes or Thompson.Davis is also inexpensive. Allen and Scal are just expirings that allow them to shred salary at the end of the year.

Really, what is Sacramento giving up, their third string PG and their 3rd or 4th string SG/SF and their 3rd or 4th string SF/PF. But they get a talented big in exchange.

Meanwhile, Boston gets a three great youngish players to plug into their bench at much needed areas PG, SG/SF and SF/PF. Again, what this is is not something that I see helping a lot this year. but Rodriguez is definitely a good backup PG, which allows an exploration of moving Eddie, Garcia is good insurance as a SG if we lose either Ray or Daniels next year, and Green is the energy 3/4 we have been lacking behind Pierce. It is nothing more than a cashing in of the expirings to a team in financial trouble for the future, though I think Green and Garcia, when he gets back after the All-Star break, will help some later this year.

Boston Sends Ray Allen and Glen Davis

Chicago Sends Kirk Hinrich, John Salmons and Tyrus Thomas
It's more a move for depth than a future star. Unless one is hoping Ty Thomas becomes a star player (free agent at the end of the year).

You're looking at what? $20 million for the three of them if you re-sign Thomas. $9 million for Hinrich (lot for a backup guard), $6 million for John, $6 million for Thomas (lots of teams will give him the MLE). Then Salmons is a free agent in either 2010 or 2011 and will be looking for a pay rise. Finances aren't great.

----------------------------------------------------------

I'm not really interested in moving Ray for depth.

My interest would be more towards a younger star who can either prolong the C's Championship window or be coupled with Rondo/Perk to give the team a better core going forward.

I like Donte Greene. I think he has the second (Evans) highest ceiling of anybody on that Kings roster. I'm starting to get worried at his lack of progress though ... doesn't look like he's going to fulfill that potential.

I'm surprised the Kings aren't play Rodriguez more in that system. He looks fantastic whenever I see him play in an uptempo setup.

The Kings don't seem to value Sergio or Greene that highly. The do value Greene some but it doesn't look like much. I'd imagine both players are available.

The Kings like Francisco Garcia ... they should be trying to get rid of that contract but I don't think they are. It would be brilliant for that franchise if they could move Garcia + Nocioni. Both of whom look possible to move, Udrih is a more difficult case.

with the logjam of players who are going to be free agents in 2010, do we really need to make a trade now?

josh childress, tyrus thomas, rudy gay, jj redick, ronnie brewer, and randy foye are all restricted free agents.  check out this link to see all:  http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=FreeAgents-09-10

Who exactly are we going to sign and for what?

We have $5.5 million mid level exemption and that's it. Give one of those players all of that and their teams match and you get nothing. There is not going to be a lot available at the MLE when there are a ton of teams that will be able to offer more.

I think you are either greatly overvaluing Davis' value in the league, or greatly underrating Garcia's (not to mention Greene's, who is still a decent prospect).

Even if they did decide to dump Garcia, I guarantee you they will get better offers than that.
