Pierce is guardable. That is exactly the problem. We stopped running plays to get him open. Without those plays, Artest can defend him quite well.

We didn't just stop running plays for him we stopped getting him the ball.  I agree with the original poster, unlike game two with Ray and game three with Kevin, we went away from the hot hand.  It's been said all series that we have to get Paul more touches, so we come out in game four running the pick and roll and doing just that and after halftime it's like we forgot about him altoghether. He finished the night with only 12 shots even though he was our only offense in the starting lineup.  There's no excuse for that.  Doc and Rondo have to do a better job.
Paul's early effectiveness in the game was of him moving without the ball and the team getting the ball to him.

I'm not as confident as some here that Pierce can get the ball on the perimeter and just run around Artest with the dribble. Running plays for him or running him through screens is the way to get free from Artest.

Paul has blown by Artest on a good number of plays without any sort of screen or help. I'd say Pierce is only guardable by Lebron when he is actually ON.

Exactly not taking anything away from Artests defense but he can NOT guard Pierce
Are you basing this view on what Pierce has shown this series?

I think that answers all questions.
PP got any shot he wanted and he made them pay.
Luckily we didn't forget about him tonight.
21 shots might have been to many if Ray was on, but since he wasn't it was probably perfect.
I'd still like to know why we can't breath on Kobe, no matter who is guarding him, but Pierce casn't get to the line unless the Lakers commit assault and battery.  They even let the Lakers scrubs push him all over the place.  That just kills me.

Theres three Celtics offenses. The full ball movement kind, where we move the ball and whoever is open takes the shot. The Rajon Rondo has the ball and creates for whoever. And the Paul Pierce exploit your man and get us a bucket. All of which have there up and downs and are better in their own way.

BUT in the playoffs where it comes down to matchups, and every basket counts, it’s important to get your best offensive player going.

Pierce is unguardable when he makes his stepback shots. He was making them tonight but this doesn't always happen. And if he's not making them, that takes all 4 players out of the flow of the offense. I think the Cs should keep doing what they're doing, which is feeding the hot hand, like they did with Ray in Game 2 and KG at times.

Basically the entire Eastern Conference Finals....look at the stats

We often expect PP to get his offense throughout the game and take the fact that he will for granted, in this series he needs iso's the 3 times we have iso-ed him early he has spanked artest 1st qtrs in game one, game 4 and game 5. When we have left him to find shots in the flow of the game he has disappeared which is on both him and the team - you cant let yourself be taken out of the offense.

In this series Artest has not done much individually to stop Paul from getting his shots on a consistent basis.

Compare the separation Paul got on his shots vs what Kobe got on his.  He's not unguardable, but the Lakers don't really have anyone who can guard him, which is all that counts.  And they can't switch Kobe over without having Artest guarding Rondo or Ray, or sitting him entirely.

Could Odom guard Ray some? I feel like his length would bother ray a lot, and he is more athletic then people probably realize
