It's three weeks into the season, and the Cs already look tired. If we're going to trade our expiring contracts, we need to do so for a good young energy player -- not another old guy. If a guy like Richard Jefferson can be had for expiring contracts, I'm not trading 'em for 3 years of old Posey. He's been invisible since signing that deal.
I've got to agree with ssspence here, I loved Posey on the championship team but he's slowed down and gotten hurt too much since then. We're going to be budget limited until KG's deal ends, we can't afford Posey's deal for what he gives us now. Our expiring contracts should be saved for a better deal.
I really don't know where these claims that Posey is done come from. His stats from last year are basically the same he had with the C's. He is still an excellent defender, and he knocks down his threes. He isn't looking good right now but who is looking good in NO? It seems that all the players have quit.
I understand that it would be better for us to acquire a player like Travis Outlaw, younger and athletic. I would like us to acquire him, that's for sure. But I've got the feeling that we're going to get screwed in free agency and that we won't have ways of improving.
So basically, and knowing that Posey's contract will hurt us in two or three years if we get him back, I say try your luck when the Hornets are selling off almost all their players. After all, Danny signed a 35 years old Sheed for 3 years, so he knows that rebuilding will come sooner than later and that we better give the team its best chances during that 3 year window.
The 2nd unit of House/Marquis/Posey/Baby/Sheed would be even better because with the great basketball IQ of these players, and especially with Marquis running the point, you could rest the starters a lot during the season. Posey wouldn't necessiraly play big minutes in the playoffs but he is perfect in case of an injury or foul trouble because he can play the 3 and the 4.
And I feel like getting back in Boston would be a huge boost of motivation for him - like it did with Sheed after the Detroit fiasco -.
