A few trips to work with Price probably isn't going to do that much for Rondo.  I'm not sure what Price could possibly have told Rondo in those 3 trips that professional coaches haven't been telling Rondo for years.   Don't the Celtics have a shooting coach?  They have to, right?  They must have someone like Mark Price on the team full time just working with Rondo on a daily basis, right?

I'm sure one of the greatest shooters in NBA history giving advice would be somewhat more helpful then just a shooting coach.  But you're right, how much can he really help if he's not with the team or with Rondo on a daily basis during the season like real coaches.

Well I was always under the impression that Rondo's mentor had been Ray Allen since Ray joined the team.  There were lots of articles about Rondo borrowing a lot of Ray's routine and making it his own.   So if working that closely with Ray didn't fix his shooting, I really doubt a few trips to meet Mark Price will.

I see these kind of articles all the time.  I remember when the media made a big deal about Kareem being Michael Olowakandi's personal coach and how that was going to make him less of a bust.

I'm not sure why so many of us think that Ray Allen has been working closely with Rondo on his shooting. I've read stuff about how Rondo has mimicked Ray's drills and pregame routines in the past, but I don't remember any media reports saying that Ray has coached Rondo's shooting mechanics in any way. I think it's unrealistic to expect that Ray Allen (who devotes so much time to his community work, family, and golf on top of being a professional athlete with a great work ethic) has the time and commitment to fix Rondo's shooting. Therefore, just because Rondo doesn't seem to have absorbed much from Ray doesn't mean that his trips to Mark Price weren't helpful. I'm going to be optimistic :).

The Subject line sounds better than the alternative:

"Mark Price expects our $55 million point guard's shooting to be better by April"

He is not making $55 million this year.

But if you hate Rondo this is a really convenient way of justifying it. sooo...win-win there.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

After hearing about the failed player-only meeting and rift between the big three and the younger players I'm skeptical that any mentoring went on last year.

i will say rondo's form looks MUCH better this year. if he keeps working on it, and keeps good form, i do think his jumper will be significantly better by the end of the year. i'm not expecting any miracles, but you have to figure that, with good form and lots of practice, that jumper will be serviceable, which is really all rondo needs.

You mind telling me how trying to do the right thing, if he messed up, proves he didn't try to practice on the weakest part of his game?

I think that his point was that Ray wasn't mentoring Rondo.

I'm sorry if I'm asking something that everyone is aware of but, do you mind clarifying this post?
