I love it when people see "the media" as like one giant building in Manhattan that's just bubbling over with SECRET AGENDAS!! Seriously, the media isn't somehow plotting to trick people into thinking LeBron won the game, they're showing highlights of him because he's extremely popular, he's the best player alive, and most importantly, because he had the best individual highlights even though his team lost.  Viewers=money, and both LeBron and spectacular plays=viewers. All of the handwringing and persecution complexes here are easily explained by some combination of this and simple confirmation bias.

Dominique Wilkins had a lot of highlight clips in L's too - didn't mean there was some shadow conspiracy to make him into an illegitimate champion or whatever the heck people think the secret endgame of the NBA-media cabal is.  It meant he was fun to watch, so people liked to watch him, so the media pushed his highlights out to their viewers.  Same with Jordan before he won anything.  Same with LeBron.  Same with whatever wildly popular but unaccomplished guy comes after LeBron.

The only thing I'd like to see change is for the NBA to move from promoting individuals to teams.  They're running this show, and I think that's reasonable.  The media in general isn't biased toward anything except whatever they think will make them the most money.  If the viewers start clamoring to hear more about successful teams and less about outstanding individuals, the coverage will change overnight.  Me, I'm happy with the W, and happy to not be overhyped like LeBron will always be.

To be fair, the majority of viewers are the casual fans. It's what they want, and there's nothing wrong in the NBA giving it to them.

Also, the nba.com updated highlights include a lot of celtics stuff. I'm happy with them doing the promos however they want. Just be happy with the win.

As much as I am proud of the way we played, Lebron's blocks were the highlights of the game. Those were the plays worth seeing again.

I'm also not a jealous type.

There's no "secret agenda" ... they make no disguise of it, and never have ... the NBA and the media's number one priority is making money, to the exclusion of all else, including at times integrity and fairness. Every fan has a right to complain, because both organizations advertise and claim to be most concerned with the viewers and bringing the highest quality product possible to the public. Is showing mostly highlights of LeBron, (in a game that he lost), instead of the winning players staying to that course?

I'm sure the fans in Cleveland think so, but let's be fair, no matter who you like or don't like, the winning team should have earned the majority of the highlights. The problem is the NBA and the media sees the profits of the future coming from icons like Kobe and LeBron, not teams or the team concept, or clubs that stress working as a unit, or anything remotely approaching integrity and character. Those people who love those icons or don't mind being force-fed what the money-making machine is offering up, are happy to go along with it, and that's their right.

But it's also our right to complain, (when we're just as much a part of that public who's footing the bill), if we feel there's an inbalance in the way things are reported and covered, or we feel our team isn't getting the same amount of promotion as those players and icons that the NBA and media see as their primary source of income for the future. Frankly, I'm just plain tired of it, and I want to see my team get the accolades they deserve. Will my and others' complaining make any difference? Probably not ... but we'll never know if we don't try, and whether it  does any good or not, it's our right to do so, and it helps us feel a bit better to vent.

(In case I wasn't clear, I'm ageeing with you here, Fwf - TP) ;)

Watching ESPN and TNT's recaps made me think EXACTLY that.

Make it look like the Celtics lead big all game and almost choked.
Show LeBron doing crazy stuff.
Show one Pierce jumpshot
More LeBron
"Oh, and the C's won I guess."

Not for nothing, these were HIGHlights and the more spectacular plays came from Lebron. On Sportscenter they're showing how the C'S came back with their second unit and a few Rondo buckets, but face it...grinding defense and good ball movement doesn't make for a good highlight package. It does make for a championship team though ;)

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
"Lebrik"? Is it Lebron's fault that he is so good? Why the name calling? Is it cause he doesnt play for us? Give him his dues. He is a superior athlete and he is only 24 and he has been one of the best individual NBA players since day 1 and he didnt even go to college; He can only get better; so he deserves not to be given demeaning names. If the team wins or not; thats another story; How good would we be if we had him? We can only dream about what we could do. That showmanship brings mopney to the NBA; of course. KG is no slouch in his own right; he's got  his own little book of antics; so does Rasheed and so do a lot of players from different teams; Fans love it so,be it. But please; dont demean Lebron just because he is the best athlete out there; it demeans the demeanor more than the athlete he is.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Actually, they do have a secret agenda... and it all comes down to making money.

Everyone is saying the Celtics don't have stars to show but what about showing some KG highlights? How is he NOT a marketable player, in fact hes one of the most recognizable players in the league. Way above players named by one poster. BARON DAVIS OVER KG pleaseeee. Even CP3 isn't as well known as KG. So I guess I disagree with the majority of posters saying they are catering to their stars because the Celtics have one of the biggest stars in the league along with Rondo, Pierce, Sheed, and Allen. ESPN has a chance to market a team with five stars and instead they show highlights of the Cavs loosing...pathetic.

I don't know if anybody here watches ESPN's poor excuse for entertainment in the show known as "Sportsnation", but I was just watching it and it is ridiculous. They have a segment that they call "3 tears" they give one tear to somebody for getting embarrassed by somebody else... 2 tears for the same thing but worse and 3 tears for a situation like Scalabrine blocking LeBron... although they would never show that. Well needless to say, the Celtics were given 2 tears today for "Being the victim of LeBron's block party". They then talked about how much they love LeBron while they played a montage of his blocks from the game and they made fun of Rondo and Ray. Not once did they mention the fact that the Celtics won the game. Ridiculous.

Only kind of related, but was anyone else surprised by how quickly a lot of sportswriters were jumping off the Cavs bandwagon today?  A lot of gloom and doom for the first game of the year against an elite team.  We were very clearly the better team by far in the eyes of a lot of the writers, at least.

Actually, it really doesn't surprise me that much.  I'm waiting for Bill Simmons to break his leg trying to jump back on the C's bandwagon when we beat the Magic and Lakers.
