What's Behind The Boxscore? It's a daily (almost) article written by Kelly Dwyer over at Ball Don't Lie. It's also the best next morning game recaps of the web. I'm not talking about Master Po's after game emotion tainted recap here. That is beautiful in it's own right. It's like a cigarette after um....things. A brief and sensible recap still seen through (hopefully) euphoric colored glasses (euphoria, when expressed as a color, is a strange amber hue. Think the mosquito in Jurassic Park). Master Po gives us the game recap we'd all write. A fan's recap.
This is a horse of a different color.
While you might have a nice beer after the game to wind down, this is like a cup of rocket fuel at 8am. A stark unforgiving recount of last night's games.
Here was the Celtic's game:
It's only one game, the Cavaliers were up against a Boston team that is a year removed from coming through with some pretty scary defense (and a season removed from acting as one of the NBA's best defensive squads even with Kevin Garnett on the pine for a good chunk of the campaign), so is it too early to fret about Cleveland's terrible offensive sets?
Come on. You saw the game. It's totally time to fret.
This was pretty bad. And take all the time you want, because unless the Cavaliers get a philosophical overhaul, this will continue to be a problem.
The game started off OK, for the Cavs. The spacing was fantastic, the ball was moving, and the team was up double digits for the better part of the first quarter.
Boston wouldn't go away, though. The game was tied, before long, once the Cavs had to go to the bench and Zydrunas Ilgauskas went under-utilized.
Cleveland's offense never looked comfortable, and the C's just like acting a bit ornery on both ends. Paul Pierce was sharp, on either end, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Kevin Garnett looked exactly as he should, provided Utah never happened last season, Rasheed Wallace looked inspired after lazing through 2008-09, and the C's looked every bit a champion.
Cleveland? They looked like the team we complained incessantly about in 2005-06, 2006-07, and 2007-08. They looked like a team that boasted a coach that was in over his head, offensively. That said ...
Is there anything more exciting than watching LeBron James stalk down a fast breaker and block the shot at the rim? There's a lot of LBJ's game that remains pretty workmanlike, kind of dreary, but these open court blocks are absolutely breathtaking.
Beyond that even it goes over the entire rest of the league. That's good because I want to know where other teams are at, both for fantasy purposes, and more importantly just to keep up with my basketball knowledge so I can call you jambronis out on it when we're talking hoop. Dwyer watches everything from Clippers-Lakers, to Bobcats-Grizzlies, and he puts real thought into the recaps. 2,000 words this morning, for 4 games. Every single game, all season long (well, almost. Also, he just kinda gives a half effort once and a while).
Here's the link, give it a try. easily my second stop after I get done with Celticsblog.
