hey all,

I'm trying to design a project for my us class on immigration (and also find out a bit more about my own family history) and was wondering if anyone else had taken this undertaking?  Ancestry.com seems legit, but it's fairly cost prohibitive, has anyone used it?  other ideas?

Absolutely.  This ties into the largest geneological database in the world.  If you need more local stuff, try your local unit of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  They will have microfilm and such from your local area.
