Ok, Well I guess we have to agree to disagree Chris, I wouldnt say the penalties by the offensive lineman were as big a deal as an 11 point swing from the patriots offense.

You don't think going from a first down and 10+ yard gain to a 5 yard penalty making it 3rd and long 2-3 times didn't have an affect on the game?  Did you see the way Jackson was absolutely tearing apart the defense?

The Pats played an absolutely terrible game until the last 2 minutes, and did everything they could to lose to an inferior team...but the Bills were up to the challenge, and showed they will always win the game of "which teams wants to lose more".

Ya man I saw Jackson and I think that was part of the gamplan.  They had to force Jackson to beat them.  If you commit to the stopping the run without Mayo in there on D you are gonna have to pull safeties up which leaves them vulnerable to Owens and Evans.

Luckily next week against the Jets, their best receiver is Cotchery who its a good player dont get me wrong but isnt in the same class as evans and owens.

And Yes I think those penalties have a big effect on the game but not as much as a missed field goal leading to good field position for the Bills and I think they scored on that following drive(I may be wrong, I dunno)  And a pick 6 after the patriots had driven and scored a touchdown and then forced a punt.

And ya, I agree, I think Brady and Welker were working out what went wrong I dont think either of them were mad, just wanted to figure it out for next time.  I think it looked like they were yelling cause they were cause it was really loud! lol

Also, Anybody else kinda see last night as a throwback to the old days when we were relying almost specifically on the short passes?

Question for the football guys out there, I think its harder to run on zone defenses because the LB's are waiting to react instead of following the short receivers right?  So would this be a decent reason for why our short passing game was featured last night and the run was somewhat innefective?

Also can we reflect on how huge Moss was last night?

Yeah, they definitely were going back to the pre-2006 days of the short passes...but I think it had as much, if not more to do with the Buffalo defense giving them that, than a specific game plan.

Its an interesting theory about running against zone defenses.  I think in general, it could be true, however, I don't think it is that simple.  In the NFL, most defenses are more complicated than straight man to man or zone.  Even when it is man to man, you have players taking reads on the offense to know what they are supposed to do.  I think if they are looking at anything to decide whether to run or not, it would have more to do with what they are doing with their front 7.  Were they stunting?  Were they playing more straight up?  Were they blitzing a lot?  That will have a lot more to do with the run vs. pass, than the type of pass defense.

Although I will say, it is more effective to run play action passes and draws against zones, since in those cases the linebackers are usually looking for keys from the offensive players much more often than when they are playing a form of man to man.

And was anybody else frustrated we didnt see sammy morris in there when the running game was struggling a little bit.  That guy always seems like the one constant we can throw in there as he has averaged 4.5 ypc and 4.7 ypc in the last two years

And also, Brady said on D&C this morning that the Bills played coverages last night that they hadnt played in years.  So that probably had something to do with Bradys poor first half. Including his 4/8 29 yard first quarter.  It was good to see him adjust though.

I think Maroney ran excellent. No dancing. He hit holes. He seemed to have good and smart cut backs on the run.

Point being he only got 32 yards. The holes weren't there. Taylor and Maroney ran very well but if there is nothing there because the offensive line isn't doing their jobs, then it doesn't matter who is running the ball. Morris is not AP. He wouldn't have done anything any better than Maroney or Taylor last night IMO.

I don't think the running game was struggling because of the running back.  The line was just getting crushed by the Bills line.  Morris would not have changed that.
