Also, Anybody else kinda see last night as a throwback to the old days when we were relying almost specifically on the short passes?
Question for the football guys out there, I think its harder to run on zone defenses because the LB's are waiting to react instead of following the short receivers right? So would this be a decent reason for why our short passing game was featured last night and the run was somewhat innefective?
Also can we reflect on how huge Moss was last night?
Yeah, they definitely were going back to the pre-2006 days of the short passes...but I think it had as much, if not more to do with the Buffalo defense giving them that, than a specific game plan.
Its an interesting theory about running against zone defenses. I think in general, it could be true, however, I don't think it is that simple. In the NFL, most defenses are more complicated than straight man to man or zone. Even when it is man to man, you have players taking reads on the offense to know what they are supposed to do. I think if they are looking at anything to decide whether to run or not, it would have more to do with what they are doing with their front 7. Were they stunting? Were they playing more straight up? Were they blitzing a lot? That will have a lot more to do with the run vs. pass, than the type of pass defense.
Although I will say, it is more effective to run play action passes and draws against zones, since in those cases the linebackers are usually looking for keys from the offensive players much more often than when they are playing a form of man to man.
