Rodney Carney anyone?

I keep seeing the idea of giving Bill Walker and or Giddens minutes at the SF. Tony Allen obviously sits till his contract runs out or gets traded. Plus will all the discussions about what impossible trades we want to make happen to get us a backup SF/SG ballhandler, I came up with Rodney Carney...

NOT A BALLHANDLER, so don't misread that.
Nice shooter, not the greatest. Decent defender as well.
Best part, 6'7 SG/SF and he's strong at taking it to the hole.

I'd sign him to a minimum contract this year just see what's up with him.

I think we're going to leave our last roster spot open for most of the year until the stretch run.

If we were going to sign someone Carney wouldn't be a bad idea, still I think we'd go with a PG.

Pretty much spot on, although I don't see what Carney gives us over Walker or Giddens.

I wouldnt mind.  He could be a really good fit for us.  And I dont think people here wouldent take both Carney, and a Vet PG.  I think people just see the vet PG as a more pressing need and would like to get it done first.

I may rather sign a veteran like Bowen half way through the year... Like we did with P.J. Brown... That is if we can get a sign and trade done to get rid of TA so we have an open roster spot...  

I'm interested in the idea of signing Rodney Carney though because he gives a different element than Marquis Daniels with his decent outside shooting and ok defense.

I think we'd be getting Carney at just the right time.

I don't think that he is a hugely better prospect than Walker or Giddens, but he is more developed as a player.

IMO he is ready to contribute. He seems to have just put his game together at the end of last year.

If we have to move Giddens or Walker to facilitate a Daniels trade, I would think that Carney would be a great pickup.

If the Celtics signed a second wing player ...

The C's already have three options at the point guard spot -- Rondo, House and Daniels -- they don't really need a fourth unless you don't want Daniels playing the point, and if that's the case, can the team really get a PG who is better than Daniels at this stage in the summer?

Obviously, it's important that the C's sign another wing if Daniels is double up as a third string point guard ... because otherwise it would leave an ungodly hole on the backup wing.

I like Carney, I think he's a decent player ... I'd rather have an older more reliable player like Bogans, Udoka or Bowen, but I'd be happy with the team signing Carney also.

I don't know if Carney is that much more of a sure thing than Walker.  With roster spots at a premium, I would rather sign a better veteran like Bowen or Udoka, or just go with Walker for now, and address it through trades if Walker fails.

I definitely think Carney is more of a proven player than Walker. He's shown he can be an above average defender in this league, and still has a lot of defensive potential. He's also proven to be a decent to mediocre jump shooter (35% from three).

I'm doubtful Walker can replicate those two skills next season, in particular the defensive ability of Carney. That would take a huge amount of improvement ... and be a huge risk for the Celtics.

Carney has had a hard time finding more than spot minutes for pretty mediocre to terrible teams.  I don't think that is a good sign for him being able to break the rotation on a championship contender.

My main point isn't that Walker is better than Carney, it is that Walker is already on the roster, so unless they are going to make some more roster room somehow (like cutting or trading Walker, Allen, or Giddens), then I would much rather they use their last roster spot on a player who has proven he can play for a quality NBA team.
