Really interesting article about the subjectivity of NBA scoring as described by an ex-Grizzlies scorekeeper and supported by statistics.  Includes the story of the time he said "Screw it" and gave Nick Van Exel (then with the Lakers) a 23-assist game.  Also guest starring the Clippers acting like morons as usual.  Fascinating stuff.

Edit: should note there is some NSFW language in the article, but it's all text so I doubt there'll be a problem.

Thought it might be a nice change of pace  :) - there's a lot of interesting stuff in there that basketball fans tend not to think about.

Best example I can think of with the C's - in Game 2 of the '08 Finals Rondo got an obscene number of assists.  Go back and watch the tape and see what he earned them for.  One play in particular he dished to Powe at about halfcourt.  Powe dribbled all the way to the basket, probably 3 solid dribbles, as the Lakers didn't come to help, and dunked it.  Assist Rondo.  We absolutely do this stuff too.

Nice find FWF TP.

I love to read articles about the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in the league.

  • Law mercy!
So Ricky Davis should have just buddied up more to the scorekeeper instead of intentionally missing a layup?   ;D
