I´ve heard a lot of conflicting opinions about Daniels from Celtic fans.
Some want him at SF, some at SG, some even at PG.
He´s a relatively good defender at all 3 positions, he´s effective around the basket, but he has no outside-shot, and even inside the arc his shot looks shaky.
I´m interested in the effect Daniels will have on how we´ll use the rest of the bench. What do you think is Daniels` role, and more importantly, which holes are left on the bench? I think to know how we´ll use Daniels is important to understand what our team needs.
For example, I can´t see how he fits alongside Rondo at SG.
Two guards who can`t shoot is a recipe for disaster, imo. So, either Eddie will play PG, or we have to rely on Sheed to spread the floor. Daniels at SF means we`d still have a hole in the backcourt.
So, how does he fit in here?
The difficulty isn't really Daniels, it's House. He is most effective off the ball, and isn't a very good ball handler under pressure anyway. But if we pair him with another short guard like Rondo, he can't match with the opposing SG very well on defense.
Daniels biggest appeal is, he's a pretty good ball handler for a guy who's 6'6". This allows House to play off the ball, without the setback on defense.
As people have pointed out however, he cannot shoot, and isn't the most spectacular of defenders, especially against the larger SFs in the league.
People will try to tell you either House is the best PG in the market, or Daniels is the best SF we could get, but neither is true. They are both SGs who can just cover each other's weaknesses.
I've stated all along we'd be best off acquiring a true backup PG and a defensive SF who can shoot the ball. But I guess Danny just couldn't do it, or didn't want to do it. We should nonetheless be VERY grateful with the Daniels signing, as he was one of the most talented guys available, no matter how he fits with our team.
