How about Pops Mensah-Bonsu? A restricted free-agent from the Toronto Raptors. With all the shooters we have, A leon Powe type of player would be the best compliment. Pops is the ultimate hustle player. He gets loose ball, bangs inside for rebounds. He rebounds like a madman better than leon. He plays great defense, but his offense is nonexistent. Usually pops gets his points off offensive rebounds, in transition, and lops. I think Clifford Ray can show him a move or two. But for now, he can hit the boards for his points or catch lops from rondo.

I don't how this will work, especially with our limited roster spots. He is a restricted FA, so Toronto can match any offer. But I doubt it, since they have Reggie Evans who is basically Pops.

I'd never heard of him before, but if he's like you say, sounds good to me. We've got tons of scorers now, and most teams can usually use another board-crasher inside.

Holla. He lit up the town when he came here, I'm all for it. Those Toronto boneheads seem to like him though, he plays defense and doesn't shoot the 3 so I don't understand why, but they seem to.

I saw Pops in italy, when he played for treviso.
Pops is a good player for the bench. a good 11°/12° in the roster.

I think Bill Walker will be a "Leon Powe" type player this year. He is very agressive, he has an NBA body at 22, and he can jump out of the building. I expect him to be active on the boards this year. He's the type of player that will get a lot of putback dunks and hustle points.

Regretfully, some real basketball skills are also required from basketball players. The only legit NBA skill Walker seems to possess right now is fouling.

This thread borders on insulting to Leon.

Pops shot about 35% from the field in 20 or so games last season, and could not get minutes for bottom feeders like Sacto and Toronto.

I don't understand why everybody is treating Leon like a dead man. He came back from his other two knee injuries just fine, and while I know a third injury is courting the devil, I'm gonna stay in Leon's camp and say that he makes a full recovery and continues to be a really effective bench player in the league--hopefully for the Celtics.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I think if one ACL snap can cripple TA, then three can cripple Powe. I'm not aware of any pro athlete that was effective after that.

I think there are some differences between TA and Powe and that being mental toughness and life experience.

Powe has his head on straight and has gone through a lot of adversity.

TA has his head somewhere else and has caused a lot of adversity for himself.

If I had to bet my house on who would come back as close to normal as before than it would have to be on Powe.

People said the same about Perk at one point, once the kid can stop the silly fouls he'll show what he's got.

Just to play devils advocate (because I would love to see Leon Powe come back), the problem with ACL recovery is that you are taking away the lift from an already undersized guy. A PF that cant dunk from flat footed under the rim is not all that valuable, no matter what his other post play assets may be.

I saw Pops play for George Washington when I went to Xavier.  The only thing he can do is dunk.  The only thing he has on Leon is 2 ACLs and some hops.  Don't sign Pops the Dunker!
