Minny just traded Etan Thomas and 2 second rounders for Chucky Atkins and Damien Wilkins: http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/other_nba/view/20090728timberwolves_deal_for_chucky_atkins_damien_wilkins/

The article says the trade is largely about the $2.5M or so the Wolves can save by waiving Atkins before his contract becomes due.

Makes me wonder how much the Wolves really want Wilkins.  Perhaps if the M. Daniels thing falls through the Cs could trade for Wilkins?  He makes $3.3M -- Cs could trade Allen+Pruitt for Wilkins (that works salary-wise; not sure if Minny would feel it works talent-wise).

I think Minnesota makes that trade. They cut Pruitt save a bit more money, and get Tony Allen who's a comparable talent to Wilkins.

Maybe, although Minnesota did sign Wilkins to an offer sheet (matched by the Sonics) a few years ago, and may want him rather than Tony Allen. Of course, that was an entirely different front office and a long time ago.

Plus, Wilkins is still just another 2 guard, I want to get an actual 3/4 hybrid player since Daniels and House can fill pretty much all our backcourt minutes - we'd only potentially need a point guard for injury situations. Wilkins just doesn't fill a need.
Go Celtics.

My suggestion was IF the Daniels trade/ signing falls through, Wilkins might be a good option.

I'd be interested in Wilkins if the Daniels deal went through.

I don't think Wilkins is good enough to be the first wing off the bench, but as the second he's serviceable.

There's nothing wrong with having larger guards that can slide over to the 3 position. Both Marquis and Wilkins can do that, and I think that's a trade hard to find. Both can hit the 3, Wilkins more then Daniels, plus both can handle the ball. Imagine a bench where 1 of the 2 of them runs the offense, Eddie House and Sheed spread the defense out of the paint, then we have a PF that would bang in the paint.
Can't stop, Rondo!
