What do folks think about Moon?

I'd love to add him --- he's #4 on my list after Marion, Wallace, McDyess, and just before Josh Childress.

He's a 6-7/6-8 SF who can defend and shoot the 3... and is only 28. He is one of a very small # of players to average 1 block/steal/3pt recently (along with Sheed 2 years ago IIRC). Strikes me as a younger version of Posey or a taller version of Bruce Bowen.

I would think that he could be had for $3-4M and that we might be able to work out a sign-and-trade with Miami for Tony Allen and Gabe Pruitt.

Miami isn't gonna want to add many multi-year contracts, so trading for Allen and Pruitt help them fill out their roster and give them another $2.5M expiring contract to possibly make a run at Bosh at the deadline.

Sadly, I hadn't seen him mentioned at all until today in the Herald in an article about Ainge's shopping list.

I would love to add Moon to our bench.  He's basically a poor mans matrix that can do a lot of things on the floor.  His athleticism alone would add a huge burst of energy to the floor.  With our money situation and hopefully (knock on wood) we land Rasheed, I think Moon might be the best bang for the buck.

Guess it's all up to how much money he wants, and if he wants to win.

As for his name not being mentioned, I wouldn't worry.  Danny made that comment about different grades of free agents, so I would assume Moon is maybe on the second/third tier.

I say go and get em if we get lucky with our mini, behind the scenes GM- KG landing us Rasheed first ;)

Whether it's Moon or someone else --- I hope Ainge fills out the roster with proven NBA players like Moon, Skinner, Lue, Udoka, etc., NOT projects like Patrick O'Bryant or Robert Swift.

Conspiracy-I have a feeling Danny knew KG would go down with an injury this year.

With a healthy KG, I don't see Danny adding any projects at this time.

If he wants to sign without the use of the MLE, then fine.

I would like to see moon here.  I think his biggest asset is his combination of average talent with great athletisism and height.  I would like to see him on a Sheed filled Celtics team, but I just want everyone to understand that there is better talent to be had.

With that being said, I'm not sure there will be better talent to be had at a better price.  When it comes down to it, the Celtics are going to add a 3/4 or 2/3 player at some point.  I would like to get the most bang for my buck at this position.  I don't need a superstar if we get Sheed, I just need someone that does the little things and plays hard.  Moon can certainly do that, plus hit some threes, plus throw down a few crowd electrifying dunks.  I think it would be a pretty good IF we get Sheed and IF there isn't better talent available for a simliar price.

Current Lineup if we Get Sheed:
Rondo / Marbury
Ray / House / Hudson
PP / ??? / Walker / TA
KG / BBD (hopefully) / Powe (Most likely)
Perk / Sheed

I posted a thread about Moon a few days after the Celtics were eliminated by Orlando. I would be glad to see him sign with the Celtics as Pierce's backup but unfortunately I think he is going for max money. If we can have him for cheap it's a no brainer of course, and a big upgrade over potential wing free agents like Hill.

I sure hope you mean max MLE money....

If that's true I'd see if we could S&T T. Allen and Scal for him, or T.Allen, Giddens and Pruitt... the reasoning is the same, MIA would add expiring contracts that they could use to trade for Bosh or that they could let walk, leaving cap-room to sign Bosh next summer.

As Michael Scott would say: Win-win-win

Good point about comparing Moons game to Marion. He is a lot younger than the Matrix.

I'd say Shoot for the Moon!!!!

Let Lebron and Rashard Lewis and Turkeyglue (whereever he ends up) say, "I am being followed by a Moon Shadow".  8)

Man, the Celtics have a lot of opportunites to improve themselves via FA at the 3, 4, and 5 positions.
Wins are few, times are hard. Here is your bleeping St Patricks Day Card.

I agree that he would be a good fit here, but I'm not sure a sign and trade before the season is the right move.  I think you have to fold onto those contracts until the middle of the season.  A lot more guys are available at that point, and guys that are unhappy/underperforming due to their situations are easier and cheaper to come by.  I could like to see us hold onto those contracts until the season is well underway.

I am adamantly 100% against any midseason moves --- trade deadline trades or post-deadline FA pickups.

Ainge got lucky with PJ Brown and Cassell 2 years ago and I hope he learned his lessosn this past season that VERY RARELY do trade deadline deals matter for a team in the title hunt...

Rasheed to DET 5 years ago
Alston to ORL last year...

can anyone else name a trade deadline or after deal that pushed a contender over the top? (IIRC, Gasol wasn't at the deadline)

The trade deadline deal for Alston was a great move.  That propelled them into the Finals, unless you missed it.  The only reason they lost from there was because they all hated Van Gundy.  Howard was complaining he wasn't getting the ball, VG brought Nelson back and he ruined the chemistry of the offense (and the second unit where Hedo was bringing the ball up and running the offense so effectively), and Alston was furious.  If it wasn't for bringing Nelson back, that would have been the move of the season.  (At the deadline).

I don't think Danny got lucky with PJ and Sam as much as you think.  Sam gave us very little, and PJ really just hit one big shot and played really good D, which is exactly what everyone expected out of them.  This year, we got much less than expected with Moore, and pretty much what everyone expected with Marbury (apart from the timidness to shoot, but good D, good ball movement, good decisions, a little confused).  Tread deadline deals work out fine, and I would like to see what the team needs are and what teams are out of the playoff race and looking to move some talent.

If we can get something worth while before hand then fine.  I would just rather see us hold onto that as a way to quick-fix any problems we run into.

Sorry to double post, thought of something else.

If we move those contracts now, then the only way to patch a hole in our roster during the season is to move someone we don't want to move, sign a guy who was released, or bring in a vet unsigned FA.  I don't like my chances of finding a truly good option on those routes.

If we hold onto these and are able to sign Sheed and a decent 3/4 3/2, then we have a perfect ace-in-the-hole if something goes wrong, or if a glaring need presents itself during the season.
