So I'm looking to purchase a Roomba for my mom. My mom is recovering from a torn rotator cuff so she's unable to use the vaccum cleaner. I've been looking at the Roomba to help her with the daily cleaning. I'm curious to see if anyone here has one and what the pros and cons are.

We swear by ours.  We've had it for 2+ years and it's great.  It's our second one (the first one lasted about a year) and I saw recently that the advancements since we purchased are pretty impressive.
sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

I have no personal experience but I think this time lapsed image of a roomba's movement speaks for itself.

Do you just let it roam around? For instance, let it loose on one floor and it kinda figures out what to do from there? Or do you have to "train" it?

We simply put it in a room (and if the room is either too big or open into another room we use the infrared boundary thingys) and let it do it's thing and it does.

As I said, ours is at least 3 year old technology so the ones today are more advanced, but I am telling you, they do the job and they are super easy.

We purchased one about a month ago, and it was definitely a great purchase.  It does an amazing job.  We have a labrador that sheds quite a bit and this thing picks up everything.  It works on our hardwood, tile, and carpet.  I'm at work right now, and it is currently vacuuming my bedroom.  Highly suggest the purchase.

They have one today which is why I'm asking. A 530(?) for $129.99.

Wow.  that is a steal.  Buy it.  We purchased ours from bed bath and beyond and paid much more than that.

I had one maybe 4 years ago and it worked for about 6 months, then all the excess dust and debris killed the circuit board, the way it was designed was flawed...but it sounds like they've improved them
