Splits

Do you think he can keep it up? Thirty-three at bats isn't a huge sample but its certainly better than any other stretch he's had this season.

Sure would be nice.  The Sox have done an amazing jon of covering up their weaknesses the last season and a third,

I don't expect him to go nuts, but I am expecting him to finish with about 20 homeruns, 90 rbis, and an average around .260-.270.  Considering how bad his first third of the season has been, those numbers would be pretty good to do within the rest of the season.

You'd still love to see them get another bat.  Great to see Ortiz showing some life, but best-case, he's batting fifth or sixth, you've still got to figure he's done as your cleanup man.  Sox have had a lot of players outperform expectations so far this season; Bay's playing so much better than he ever has before in his career, you'd expect him to cool down a bit.  Great seeing 'Tek show some pop again, but you need to plan on him cooling off as the season wears on.  Lowell's been great, but again - you expect that to keep up all year?  Are Lugo and Nick Greebn going to finish the year batting .300?

If Ortiz can get it back going, that'll be outstanding, but it really seems to me that we've got a lot more players we can expect to perform at a lower level in the second half of the year than in the first (just because so many guys have done so much better than expedcted).  I think we're going to be wanting another bat before the season's out.

The issue with adding a bat is the only spot to upgrade is shortstop.  Other then that, it's not really worth trading someone to get a bat because you'll be giving up too much for him to be just a replacement player.

OPSing over 1000 for June and just moments ago hit an absolute bomb to dead center (off of a Natinals pitcher, mind you). Could he really be back, like 03-07 back?

David Ortiz -- I guess he just enjoys toying around with the haters and doubters!
Celtics fan for life.

I'd like to believe he never did roids; however, regardless of whether he did or didn't, I don't think his recent woes are due to them.  Roids may make you stronger, they don't affect his ability to make contact, which he clearly was having trouble with earlier.  Personally, I think he was trying to hard to make up for his lackluster end to last year.

I think he'll be OK the rest of the year.
