A league source confirmed to the Philadelphia Inquirer that the 76ers have shopped forward Elton Brand.

However, it is unlikely that the Sixers will be able to trade Brand because of the sizable contract he signed last summer and his recent injury history.

Brand has four years and $65 million left on his deal.

Philadelphia general manager Ed Stefanski is also looking at a possible move involving the 17th overall pick.

"We're exploring moving up and moving back," Stefanski said, adding that "unless the demands get less, we won't be doing that."

Too bad we did not have the firepower to bring Brand here.  He has a huge contract but could play both PF and C.  Imagine Brand as the first big off the bench.

That is a heck of a contract for a bench guy!

If he's playing 30 minutes who cares if he starts or not.

The problem is we have no indication whether or not he'll be back to being a top 5 PF like he was when healthy. The 76ers won't find any takers until he's at least played a month and been productive.

nobody is going to take that guy unless he proves he's healthy for at least half a season (maybe they can move him at the deadline - maybe)

I think teams would take him if they got him on a low price.

But certainly, nobody will be willing to give up anything of serious value in order to get Brand, not until he proves his fitness.

With the market the way it is and the uncertainty surrounding the player, the 76ers might cut ties for a 1st rounder and an expiring or a protected 2nd rounder and instant cap relief.

Now why wouldn't a team way under the cap a few years a way take a chance on this guy? If I'm Chris Wallace I would consider just absorbing a guy like Brand just to take a chance.

Would the Heat be interested?  Maybe Blount + Haslem?

If Brand comes back and is playing well by the deadline next season. Outside of that I don't see why Riley would do that.

only after Wade re-signs

making that trade now might scare him off for good

Why kill their cap space for 2010? I think they'd do it but only after they've tried to get Bosh as a FA.
