It has been quite awhile since I have posted to CB but I have continued reading the site info with great interest. As has been stated in various posts, sign and trades are extremely difficult to pull off. I am hopeful this sign and trade will fall withing the requirements of the CBA. I believe it will but perhaps I am forgetting about a rule which might cause it to fail. Please note if that is the case.
I also had to make a guess at what both the priciples (BBD & Kleiza) would be looking for as a contract for the upcoming year. I put both at contracts starting with 3.5 this year. I feel their worth is relatively equal and assumed they would both have similar contracts. Not sure if everyone would agree, but that was my premise for developing this trade scenario.
Boston trades:
S/T BBD
T. Allen
E. House (assuming option is picked up)
B. Walker
(trade also works if you sub B. Scalabrine for House and Walker)
Denver trades:
S/T L. Kleiza
R. Balkman
S. Hunter
Both teams get the benefit of getting something in areas of need for a player they are expecting to lose with neither team having to fill that need with either the MLE or LLE. Except for B. Walker, all contracts will be expiring contracts, so both teams still have about the same amount of expirings come the trade deadline.
Boston gets 2 sf/pf's to back up PP, one more of a power 3 and the other a finesse 3. Both are good rebounders and they present different styles of play. They also take a 1 year flyer on a 7 ft. center recovering from knee surgery to be the 3rd string center. If he is unable to return he may be in line for medical exemption to pay part of his salary.
Denver gets a pf/c to give Nene some help. BBD would allow them to match up a little better against the inside games of teams such as the Lakers and Houston. Also gives them a better mid-range shot then any of their bigs at present. TA can try to be the defensive stopper they will probably lose in D. Jones. House can be a reserve to help spread the court for Carmelo and Billups. Walker would be a flyer for their back-up SF position. It also gives them and extra player to fill the roster as they are up against the luxury tax already with just 9 players, now they would be up against it with 10 players. If on the other hand they want a big to spread the floor and add some perimeter D they could instead take Scal in place of House and Walker.
