Any thoughts as a signing for the Celtics?

I know he's restricted and Utah probably wants to keep him bad but there's at least a chance he could get to the C's.  He'd provide some great minutes behind Paul and could play some at the 4 too if needed.

Not sure what he's asking for though so he might be out of the C's price range.

I think his lack of size makes him less than ideal, unless you are willing to play KG at C.

Well we'd need to get some effective size on the bench as well but I prefer Millsap to BBD and at this point it seems like they'd cost the same money, going by BBD's statements in the press.

Because he's unattainable -- costs too much money -- unfortunately, there's no chance of him signing with the Celtics.

Really, all I'm hearing is he'd be around the MLE.  Maybe 6-7 mil. per season.  And if Boozer doesn't opt-out, I know he's likely to, Utah may not be able to afford it.  Just a thought.

By the way, if Millsap is out of our price range...Sheed is definitely out of our price range.

Pretty much dead on.  He won't sign for the MLE, and if he did, Utah would match.

Ditto.

I'd be very surprised if Sheed gets a better contract than Millsap.

Paul Millsap is a pure power forward. You cannot play him at the 3, mainly because he has no outside shot, not even the 18' jumper. His lack of size isn't that much of an issue because he's so strong.

RealGM is saying that Millsap and Ben Gordon are the presumed targets this offseason for Detroit's cap space.

Millsap would fit well with the Detroit blue-collar philosophy. What do you guys think about Ben Gordon there, especially with Rip Hamilton still under contract for the next few years? Either he or BG would be an awfully expensive 6th man.

PG: Stucky
SG: Rip/BG
SF: Prince
PF: Millsap

Millsap makes a lot more sense than Ben Gordon - UNLESS they trade Rip or Prince.  You cannot sign Gordon for $8M - $10M, and be paying Tayshaun AND Rip Hamilton (who JUST signed an extension).

What I kinda hope and pray...   if Detroit DOES sign Gordon, they might consider some kind of deal where we could get Rip somehow (third team, probably) for Ray Allen.  Even straight-up, they'd have a helluva 6th man for one year, then likely some cap space in 2010 when Ray's deal came off the books.

I wonder, too...  the absolute best-case I can think of for Detroit (and Utah).  Detroit signs Gordon with their cap space.  Boozer opts out, does a sign-and-trade going to Detroit, Detroit sending either Rip or Prince back to SLC (probably Rip).  Utah then resigns Millsap.

Utah gets value for Boozer, has Rip and Millsap instread of Boozer and Millsap.

Detroit gets Gordon to replace Rip and Boozer to replace 'Sheed (who's not coming back).

I could see Rip playing for Sloan, he's a good, hard-nosed, smart baller.  Boozer would likely get per-year about the same as Rip gets, so they could probably structure a deal without too many complications.
