you know what's funny?

I'd take washed up Gary Payton during his Boston stint any day over washed up Sam Cassell last year or washed up Suckbury this year.

I wouldn't. You and your nicknames ::)

Hehe you wouldn't?  Really?

GP averaged 11 points, 6 assists 3 rebounds and a steal.  47% shooting.  Not too bad.  More minutes than the others, but effective enough minutes.

Sam averaged 7 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds on a spectacular 38% shooting.

I think suckbury is shooting 34%... all three of them were bad defenders by the time they came to Boston.

Heck yeah... I take washed up GP over either of those bums.
I didn't like the way either GP or Cassell ran our offense (or didn't run it). From a backup pg I want some someone who will push the ball, find the open man, and get at it on defense. I also thought both Cassell and Payton were horrible defenders in Boston and that Marbury has been adequate on defense and not a liability. So based on Marbury's better running of our offense and better defense, I am much happier with him as the backup then these other too and don't be surprised if his own offense improves too.

P.S. For your shooting percentages, did you even consider using adjusted field goal percentage? B/c regular field goal percentage favors players who don't shoot many threes. Guys like Payton or Cassell or Rondo. Not that important, b/c defense and running the offense is more important than the backup pg "getting his," but just curious.

[Edited.]

And Marbury has already said he would want to play for the Celtics next year if they wanted him.

Haha.  Starbury *looks* the best.  He's making good decisions with the ball (usually).  Lately, he's playing strong defense.  His problem is he hasn't been able to hit the broad side of a barn with his shots.  Maybe last night will change that some.  We'll need a contribution from him if Rondo doesn't snap out of his mental funk.

  • Rondo = Good
I think defaulting to stats doesn't give Marbury a fair shake...a lot of what he gives us in comparison to Cassel or even House (as a backup PG at least) is not so tangible in terms of numbers.

Marbury has good ball handling, doesn't make a lot of turnovers, is a good passer, and generally speaking hasn't been selfish taking shots (sometimes too selfless in fact).  He still needs to get back into basketball rhythm and shape, but last night was a good indication that he could eventually be good for 10-15 points on a good night with 10-20 minutes off the bench and a decent amount of assists.  His defense has been pretty OK lately too.

I agree, Marbury was huge yesterday and I'm disappointed that Doc didn't play him more, especially when Rondo struggled again late in the game.

Marbury was aggressive, saw his confidence increased by his converted shots in the paint, and he made good decisions with the ball. I wanted him to come back next year with the Celtics before this game and I want him back even more badly now. He handles the ball well, always passes fist, makes good decisions and he can drive to the basket and shoot. His shot is the worst part of his game right now (his liability) but it'll come back with more playing time and more success.

Plus, Marbury is really enjoing his life in Boston and I don't think he'll appeal an other team so he would probably be glad to re-sign with the Celtics for 1M$.

feel the same way...

really can't figure out why DOC would pull Starbury out of the lineup after making 8 pts 3 assists and 1 rebound in 9 minutes?

pretty decent performance ....tsk tsk
