KG, why did we get you...to win championships...championships are won in the playoffs, not during the regular season..ask the Spurs....thanks for last year, it was great..we want more...play in spots in these playoffs until the late rounds when we will need you every game, if we get there.....how many more shots does this core have?......what's the worst case?...you blow out your knee and your rehabbing a whole year ready just in time, if not before,.... for next years playoffs, when championships are won...or lost...if you don't like or know how to play in pain ask the guy who came back and played in the same game that he got his front teeth knocked out as he went sideways to the floor...ask the guy who played in that LA wheelchair game where he was hurt in a way that scared him, and he still came back, gimpy but willing..ask the guy who always plays thru the pain.....GO ASK THE CAPTAIN...for that matter ask Scal too, who's risking a whole lot more

I know this sounds harsh and KG is a sacred cow here, but I can't help but think that if KG said "I'm playing"....they wouldn't say "no"

Maybe the "plan" is to play him if they get by  Chicago...some plan, but ther is some logic to it

What sucks is that none of us even know if this is fair or not due to the incomplete and/or misleading information we've received throughout this process.   ::)

According to Doc, KG wanted to play, but the team shut him down after he was clearly laboring in practice.  Apparently, the injury is really affecting his mobility, and the knee is repeatedly locking up.  Also, there's a physical component to the injury that it's very possible the Celtics medical staff is missing.

I don't think it's as simple as saying he should play through pain.  KG has absolutely no history of milking injuries, and I really doubt that he would choose to sit rather than play if he physically could.  This isn't Zach Randolph we're talking about here.

Or J.D. Drew.

Also, I don't really buy all this conspiracy stuff about the team holding back a ton of information from the public.  In fact, I think they have been way too forthcoming with the public, and it has bitten them in the butt several times already.

Enough with the comments like this, guys.  They're not constructive.  You can disagree, but please don't insult.

I agree with this. There is some uncertainty with what the injury is and the team has shown that with what seems to be conflicting stories from one day to the next. I just think they expected it to be something that would heal sooner than it did. Now that it hasn't healed like it technically should have, they assume it must be something worse and want to put him under the knife to see what the deal is. The delay of the surgery shows me that they have hope that it could still be what the initial diagnosis was and will heal.

Doc even said that post conference the day before the playoffs was for his team to hear. I think Doc feels as if KG has a 25% chance of returning. He just didn't want his team assuming they could ease up and then be bailed out by KG. There is more of this story to play out.

Hmmm... so, what exactly is KG injury?

I think if he could play in the playoffs he would play. Maybe they're gambling they can get through the first round, but they aren't just holding him as a precaution. They either don't know something or something could be potentially serious if they mess with it. How would you like to find out his career is done? How would like to find out he ends up like Grant Hill and has to sit out two years? Look at Elton Brand. Played 8 games last year and 29 this.  I'm not willing to risk that and I'm not in a position to judge it. There is something either disabling or possibly permanent here. It's not like teeth. You can give a pro athlete dentures. A new knee or ACL is different

Good comments. I am most assuredly not willing to throw the long-term future of the ballclub under the bus for one set of playoffs.

I'm pretty sure KG is dying to play. The team obviously doesn't want him to get hurt long term, though. He's no TMac. This guy played through numerous injuries his whole career. I want to win as much as the next guy but if he can't play, he can't play. There's really nothing we can do but hope he somehow returns.
