I'll defend Kerr a little bit - he came in knowing that the current core wasn't going to win a title, and so went after Shaq.  Marion-for-Shaq actually was a good move for them in basketball-only terms, though the contract gives them trouble.  Porter was a bad signing, though it's hard to tell how much was him and how much was the players refusing to buy in.  Richardson smelled desperate, and I'd bet they'd rather have Bell and Diaw right now.

Sarver is the real problem - he was the one who forced them to sell off Rondo, Deng, Rudy Fernandez, etc, and make that atrocious Kurt Thomas and 2 firsts for a 2nd rounder trade that the league should've blocked.  But he's not going anywhere, so the team's gonna have to adapt to his financial restrictions.

I say the Suns keep Amare, but Nash is done - I don't think either side is interested in keeping him around.  He may do a sign-and-trade to help them out and up his salary a bit, but I think he's gonna look to go to a contender. (Side note: imagine if he came here to play the Marbury role for us next year?  It's ridiculously unlikely but Nash seems low-ego enough to keep it from being impossible).  Suns will try to rebuild around Amare, but I'm not sure how with the personnel they have and the draft picks they've already given away.  I think they're gonna spend a few years in the lottery before they can expect to make a real run again.  :(

Shaq for Marion was not a bad deal. Marion sucks. I cannot believe people thought he was ever underrated. I would deal Amare for a player that can help now + picks... keep Shaq, let his deal expire. Same for Nash. Let them play for deals somewhere else. I don't think having a TOTAL firesale this offseason is the answer.

Well, they can't fire Sarver, so Kerr has to take the hit.

The Shaq trade for Phoenix was like the Iverson trade for Detroit.  It's not working out, despite the fact that Shaq is putting up decent numbers.  The difference is that the Suns are stuck with Shaq for an extra year.

Shaq has been much more productive for them than Iverson was for Detroit. Iverson's stock has taken a big hit and Shaq's has actually risen.

Not with me.  He doesn't play much defense any more.  Detroit is going to the playoffs.  Phoenix is going home.  Dallas got what this afternoon, 140 points?

Maybe.  They are close to being passed by the below 500 Bobcats.

I agree. Amare is not the type of player to build around. He's a selfish PF with no D who has a history of knee problems, sell him off while you still can and let shaq and nash expire.
