You've gotta take Sue in the first round.

Take one of the DT 1st overall (personally, I'd take Suh), then look to address your QB situation in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I've tended to be of the opinion you build a football team "inside out" if you're trying to rebuild.

I'm hearing a bit about how top picks get paid so much money that it could make the team lean towards a QB, because it doesn't make financial success to pay a lower money player so much money.

So it makes financial sense to pay a less good player more money?

Does this mean it was a bad idea for Parcells to pick OT Jake Long #1 and Chad Henne in the 2nd?

The other thing is I don't see how the 1rst rnd QBs have somehow totally distinguished themselves over the 2nd rounders here

A lot of the top Qbs in this draft either have problems with their injury history, experience, or both

You'd think the NFL rookie system HAS to get addressed in the next CBA. it just doesn't make sense to pay huge amounts of money to players who don't play as much (and aren't as good as) the players already there, who are making less money.

NFL teams actually sometimes don't want the first pick because there's DISincentive to take the player they want. How does that make sense? Shouldn't every team want the #1 pick if it were offered to them?

I agree.  Something certainly needs to be done.

If a team misfires on a Top 5 pick, it can be devastating and even set the franchise back a bit.

I guess I agree. It's very unusual now for a top 5 team to trade back. Maybe from 1 to 3 or something, but never to 10 or 20

As a Redskins fan, I admit I'm torn this year.  The team has stunk for years and needs a major overhaul of talent and management philosophy.  I'm hoping the new team management will be smarter about personnel decisions.  Albert Haynesworth anyone?

Teams that get to top contention have superstars that can typically only be obtained through very high draft picks so from that perspective, I'd like them to keep their pick take the best talent available when they pick.  Regardless of position.  I don't consider any position on the team to be beyond improvement.

On the other hand, they're so lacking in talent that if they can parlay their top pick into a pick in the 10-12 range and pick up another 1st rounder in the high 20's or a very solid starter, I'd consider it.   Same with the 2nd rounder.  If they can work 2 draft picks into 4 quality starters, I'd have to consider that from a personnel perspective.

I agree.  You need to build up your offensive and defensive lines before you can do anything.  What's the good in having a top notch QB if he doesn't have time to make plays or if he's going to get sacked 60+ times on the season?  David Carr may have had the abilities to turn into a good NFL quarterback, but he never had an offensive line to help him in Houston.  If they do think Bradford really is that good though, then I do understand picking him #1.  There is a lot of OL/DL value in this years draft and it will be there in the second round.

Ooh, this is just my field of expertise! We have this debate on the Bills board I frequent literally every offseason! A main part of getting this right is taking the right talent. Suh looks pretty [dang] close to a sure thing.

So what's the prevalent opinion on that site?   That if you're rebuilding, go inside out?

The NFL needs to implement a rookie salary scale similar to what the NBA has. It is just dumb for a first round pick to hold out until after the season starts. Something needs to be done with the next CBA.

Yes, absolutely. There's some debate as to whether a qb can be just as important, but I think you need your interior linemen first. Teams have won the title with an average qb (though it looks to be trending away from this), but solid lines are pretty much a must have.
