would anyone here prefer if the nba was run like major league baseball? in this case we(the celts) would pretty much be able to consistently buy the most talented players every year.we could probably just buy lebron. if we can't get lebron we could just but dwight howard or wade or whoever.it would be the richest teams in the running pretty much every single year. it would be nearly impossible for us not to rack up more than a few titles in the years to come. would anyone want this?

I'm not crazy about it.  Being a Sox a fan I am really appreciative of how they played over the years but I do feel a little spoiled being that they are regularly the 2nd highest payroll year in and year out.   It almost feels more special when you can win like the Celtics did on level playing ground.

it works, its not just about the biggest players and scorers. if the celtics could spend as much money as they want they would use it the right way, danny understands what it takes, he understands that you can't just get the top 5 scorers in the league and expect them to perform.

The Mavs, Lakers, and Knicks would outspend us every year (maybe more teams too).  So we probably would never be able to buy the best players unless we drafted them.

Stern is stupid for allowing so many franchises in the league, which IMO is why there is not parity between the top and bottom teams.  There are just not enough good players to go around for all teams in the NBA and its a bigger deal in the NBA because few players can have huge impacts on the outcomes of games.  In the NFL and MLB, its not as big of a deal because the individual impact players have on a game is much less than in the NBA.

For the same reason (few players having bigger impacts) makes the salary cap a bigger necessity in the NBA than other sports.

don't get me wrong. i think it's a joke that teams like  red sox and yankees can pretty much spend whatever they want. last year(the first year w/the c's kickin tail) i can finally express my opinion about how ridiculous they're being whining at how the yankees buy success when the sox also somewhat HAVE and WILL BE buying titles in the future. it's definitely not the red sox fault. they're only taking advantage of the opportunity. i think they'd be stupid not to. but i still think it's completely unfair and makes mlb a joke.

As a fan of basketball, and of competition in general, I want the NBA to be as fair as possible. What the OP is talking about would not be fair. To me, it's more fun winning when you know you've won fairly. That's not to discredit entirely what some of the higher payroll teams in baseball have done. The reason why the Sox have won it all twice this century and the Yanks haven't won a world series is player development, which has nothing at all to do with money. But I definitely feel that title-winning teams in the NBA or NFL should have a greater sense of satisfaction knowing that everyone in their league is on somewhat equal footing (sorry Clippers fans).
