Eddie House is a great 'off the bench' asset to the team. I definitely see improvement to his game this year, both ball handling and defensive anticipation. It is early though, so it could be my enthusiasm amplifying things a bit.

I hope we will see a lineup of House, Pruitt and Ray Allen more often than the one with House, Pruitt and Tony Allen. I like Tony as a backup SG but not as a backup SF. I think Gabe Pruitt will improve enough to make Tony trade bait this season.

if TA plays the regular season like he's playing right now, he'll be infintly more valuable to this team than gabe, who will still be a good bench player. he is absolutely lights out defensively right now, and he is a beast slashing, ala' tony 2 years ago.

also, he's been much more sure of himself with regards to passing and protecting the rock. he keeps this up, i might have to retire the human turnover moniker.

Off the bench - House (PG), Powe (PF), and TA (PG/SG/SF) are locks. I think if TA was worried about PT he would have tried to score more in recent exhbitions.. I think he already has assurances that he will see time.

BBD seems to have captured the backup center role over POB (though personally I don't really like this too much). So he is probably the ninth guy. That leaves Pruitt maybe squeezing in as the 10th guy but Doc might prefer Scalabrine or Walker as they provide more size.

It's really just a numbers crunch for Pruitt. I am optomistic to think though he has beaten out Cassell and thus when say TA or Rondo gets hurt (lets be honest this is really likely) he will break into the rotation.

I think that Gabe will definitely see most of the time at the backup PG. He played extremely well at the point this preseason and had a solid ability to bring the ball up the floor and get the team into their offense. He also is a dangerous threat from the outside as well that will come in handy.

TA is not and will never be a PG option. The guy seems to be making some better decisions at times slashing to the basket, but he still is a turnover prone player. (see last night against the Knicks) He will go through stretches and look really good, and then make the dumbest play out there. I am cautiously optimistic about his play at the 2 and 3 spots, but you can't trust the guys decision making at the point. If we want him to succeed we need to have him play the spot and role he is capable of. I see a lot of 3 when House is out there at the 2. He is really the first guard that should enter the lineup.

BBD didn't capture anything this preseason. He was utterly bad most games and has not shown an ounce of improvement over last year. He is out of shape and quite honestly a poor post player on the block due to his lack of hops. He really needs to spend a year on the bench deciding if he wants to put in the effort to get in shape and improve. Powe is so much better than BBD that it isn't even a close contest. I would much rather have POB in there at the backup Center spot for his ability to block shots. As he gets more time his offense will come around as well.

I was so happy when EHouse signed this summer.  His release is one of the quickest I've ever seen.  Last night I noticed that his 'D' was sick.  His handle will always be a problem, but I think that TA or P2 will do the majority of the ball handeling when he is on the court.

Lastly, Eddie brings a swagger to the team.  Last night when Stephon Dingle Berry was getting chippy with Eddie, he just pointed to his ring finger.....awesome. 

Eddie will win many games for the C's this year!

Yep, I love Eddie's enthusiasm off the bench and his hustle. The fact that he can shoot the ball so well doesn't hurt either.

However, as I mentioned in the original post, one of the reasons why I think he was the right choice and what also makes him even more valuable is: after going all season as a guy deeply entrenched in the lineup and a pretty key part of our success all year, he was basically relegated by Doc to the D league for all intensive purposes while Sam got all his minutes. The guy didn't complain, but then after all that when his number is called he comes in and AGAIN has a big impact on us winning it.

Shows alot of character and a well balanced ego.

Tranlated to this year > he has the mentality to be able to step aside, in spurts, if asked this year so we can help Gabe grow. Other Vets might not like that or couldn't handle it. But Eddie will roll with it and if we can really get Gabe up to speed he could turn into a big help with his size, shooting and long defense at the point this year.

This is so valuable because it allows the coach to bring everyone along, making the team stronger as a whole.

...Eddie will go with the flow, step aside for the better of the team, but then be ready with no head issues when he's called again.

This is the perfect scenario of a Vet point with a young starter ( Rondo ) and a guy like Pruitt in the wings who needs to see the floor and get developed.
