Hey guys, i was curious if i could get some opinions from any doctors or any people that have knee problems on celticsblog.  I am almost 21 years old and i play a lot of basketball.  Since last year, i have started to get pain in both knees right below the Patella and at the top of my shin kind of where the knee connects to the tibia.  I played basketball a little this summer and didnt experience much pain but started playing again at school the past few days and have been dealing with a great deal of pain in both knees around the same spot.  It has gotten to the point where i struggle to walk up or even down stairs and it hurts even while walking.  While i was playing pickup basketball the other day, after about 20 minutes i started to feel tremendous pain and could barely even jog up the court.  I am about 6'1 and i have put on a little weight since highschool and i should be about 195 pounds currently but the weight shouldn't be the issue.  I have talked to my mom and she said that some of my relatives have had Osgood-Schlatter disease but i have read a lot that it usually only effects growing adolescents.  I have been icing both knees daily but i want to get back on the court and be able to play competitively without struggling with pain.  Anybody have any suggestions as to what i should do or any stretches or strengthening advice?

1. Read up on jumper's knee
2. You can still have Osgood-Schlatter's
3. And most importantly SEE A DOCTOR

I had that same exact problem as you. I played basketball all my life, in high school and such. My senior year during summer league and such I would get really bad pains right around my petella tendon in both knees. It ended up getting so bad that while i tried to play through it during the season, the next day after practice or games I wasnt able to walk up the stairs to my classes. I went to the doctors and they did an Xray and such and nothing was damanged but my Pattella tendon was very swollen. I took about a month off from playing basketball and went to physical therapy 3 days a week for about a month and a half. Since then I have been great. My suggestion would be to see a doctor to make sure you havent torn anything, and then just taking some time off and going to physical thereapy, trust me, it will do wonders! Its been 2 years since that has happend to me and I havent had any reaccuring instances. I bought 2 small braces for my knees that I wear when I play just as like a "safety" factor, but yeah, I would recommend taking some time off and some physical thereapy

I hurt my knee a long time ago, I felt my knee pop out and pop back in. I was in great amount of pain for a long time. I didn't see a doctor for about a year. until one day i was playing basketball and it popped again. When i finally went to see a doctor, he told me that i had torn ACL and meniscus as well. they performed a small authoscropic surgery to repair my cartilidge, I decided not to repair my ACL. It's been about 7 years and my knee is fine. I run everyday and no problems so far.
