All this talk about needing another back up big, is there any chance the C's bring him back to camp. He looked decent enough in camp and would make a good stop gap in case the PJ O'Bryant experiment fails.

Maccabi signs center Esteban Batista
Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv upgraded the talent and depth of its frontline with the signing of center Esteban Batista for two seasons, the club announced Sunday. Batista (208, 24) becomes the first Uruguayan to join a Euroleague side. He comes to Tel Aviv after starting the preseason with the Boston Celtics, with whom he took part in the NBA Europe Live events earlier this month in Spain and England. He spent the past two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in 70 games. Batista was at his best representing Uruguay this summer at the FIBA Americas Championship. He led the competition with 12.4 rebounds per game and was third in scoring with 20.8 points per game, helping his country to sixth place. Batista is expected to arrive in Israel later Sunday and could make his Euroleague Basketball debut on October 25 when Maccabi hosts Le Mans.

He wasn't all that bad either from what I remember. Hustles, runs the floor well, good hands and plays physicall. Is he better than Powe or Davis? probably not better than Scal? Yes. I think if I can remember they cut him at his agents request so he he can sign the contract in Isreal. The guy just wanted playing time. But I believe the Celts would have givin him very strong consideration.

Batista averaged 10 points and 5+ rebounds a game while shooting over 57% for Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Euroleague B Grouping. I have know idea whether that is good or not considering the competition but he was his team's 4th leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder while playing the 6th most minutes on the team.

Perhaps some of our European friends that follow the Euroleague can tell us whether that is good or not. But with another year of development I don't think it's beyond the realm of possibility to see Batista playing in the NBA again.

remember, you can't teach height.

considering we signed the underachieving / tallish patrick o'bryant, i hope that height is teachable...
