No idea...

Sure GM's make in the low 7 figures... $1-3 mil maybe, depending on tenure and performance.

I'm guessing it's very similar to your average corporate America type white collar jobs... GMs, VPs, etc make 6 figures+, 9-5 financial analysts, sales, marketing, accounting, development type roles probably between 40 and 100k, commensurate with experience.

I minored in Sports Management and, as you can imagine, most the other students in my classes were interested in working in the sports field, many in these type of business jobs.  One think all my professors stressed was that there are thousands of people that want to work in the sports world, especially for pro franchises, and because of all the supply, they are able to underpay for the type of work.

I worked on an interesting project in my Sports Administration class where a group of 6 of us each interviewed someone working in Sports Admin at Univ. of Florida.  I interviewed their Controller (Financial/Accounting person), but the most interesting was the interview with their Athletic Director.  One of the slides was about his career path, which was all at UF, and believe it or not he got his start in the Ticket Booth.  Our professor said it's a great starting point because it can eventually get you promoted to managing ticket sales, which gives to insight into the heart of the "business" of college sports, something that easily translates into balancing budgets and making key decisions.  Pretty sure that AD make $250k+.

I know people who have interned for the C's and the Sox for no pay just to try and get a foot in the door, not uncommon in the business world - generally if you're in a position to be a GM or a COO, CEO, etc. you don't really need the money, but I do think some of them command pretty high salaries anyways

Got my Master's @ UNC-chapel hill in Sports Administration in 1990 ....... getting into big-time sports admin was similar to getting into big-time coaching. you start at the bottom (GA or intern) just to get a foot in and then like coaching you work like hell for very little and hope to get a few breaks and move up.

Sports Admin programs - undergrad & grad - are often useless degrees that sound great and lead to nowhere. I think Universities are doing a real disservice to students and you see so many college athletes with sport admin as their major.

i ended up working at a small college coordinating facilities and taking care of camps and conference groups. it was a good job that i liked just fine and that paid pretty well, but it wasn't what i envisioned when i started.

the big-time Sport Admin program in the country has historically been @ Ohio University in Athens, OH. yep - little ol' Ohio U - but they have alumni all over D1 athletic programs and pro sport offices.
