The ideal situation for next year is to have posey back and virtually the same team we had last year

4 years at 20 million dollars its a done deal, but just because ainge or wyc and other owners don't want to pay those extra tax dollars or for that extra year(which is workable by using posey as trade bait later) they are kind of money pinching and not thinking

Look at the knicks who have the biggest payroll , yeah they have made dumb signings or been screwed by guys like marbury but at least they try

So my question is how is the celtics market that much lower than the knicks market??(relation to our payroll and ability to pay the tax dollars) ticket prices are a bit higher to watch at a knicks game but the celts don't get it that the more competative their team is the further they go in the playoffs and luxury tax money is then will get taken cared off. (without posey it will be a big chore to get further and further in the playoffs without taxing our big threes efforts)

I just read the elton brand saga and posey once he gets that 4th year he is gone imo. He must be totally turned off by the celtics approach by now(sort of low balling him and waiting to adjust their price if he gets a better offer perhaps)

IF danny has offered a 4 year 20 million deal and posey denied that then i say posey is being too greedy; at this situation for a such a player like posey a little overpay is necessary

Boston is a pretty rich city, celtics can bump up the ticket prices just a little so we can have as close to last years team possible. I see poseys lost if it happens a regrettable one, we will feel the pressure without him against teams like detroit and cavs

A couple of things:

First, I think the team would give him 4 years, $20 million.  Rumor has it that we're willing to go 3 years, $18.1 million, while Posey is asking for 4 years, $25 million (or even a five year deal).

Second, there is a major difference in the revenue of the Celtics versus the Knicks.  The Knicks brought in $196 million in revenue in 2007.  Their ownership (Cablevision) owns Madison Square Garden, where they make a killing on gate receipts and concessions.  Despite their poor record, the Knicks are considered the most valuable franchise in the NBA.

The Celtics are much farther behind.  Their revenue for 2007 was $117 million, nearly $80 million less than the Knicks.  The Celtics don't own their own arena, and have a lease that doesn't allow them concessions money.  As of last year's Forbes list, they were the 11th ranked franchise in the NBA in terms of valuation.

hobbs good call but raising ticket prices just a little doesn't kill anyone, especially if you want to have a champion team in your city

i never knew the knicks owned msg or co owned it i guess with the new york rangers??

If the celts offered posey or can 4 year at 20 million and he doesn't take it, danny has to just move on . Wow posey is a great defensive player but his stats are not to warrant such a money

Posey knows what its going to take to play on this team. He needs to buck up and take it or move on.

PLEASE GET THIS OVER WITH!!

James please just take the 3 year $18M deal.

The Knicks also have a -$40 million operating income.

Budgetary restrictions are a good reason to let Posey go - but, in that case, it doesn't make much sense to spend the MLE in another players with contracts longer than a single year, cap reasons are not. We are not going to be under the cap until 2011 and by that time Posey will be an expiring, even if he signs a 4 year contract.
