Perkins is arguably a better post 1v1 defender than KG.  He's got a better body for it and he plays pretty intelligently on the ball.  He truly ate Gasol's soul in game 3.  He even showed some nice footwork when Gasol tried to spin baseline a few times.  Completely sealed it off.

Obviously he isn't in KG's league from a complete defensive standpoint, but he's a really nice rock to have alongside him.

Completely agree with you and you got a TP for that one.  I would also say that playing wth KG has raised Perk's defense to a different level, whether it's through teaching or just the infectious tenacity that KG brings to the table every night.

"I think one of his biggest values on offense is that he takes a lot of the defense's attention and passes well to the open man. It is excellent he has the ability to shoot well all the way out to three point land, whether he overuses it or not, because it stretches the floor. He is obviously intense and that filters down, he took a pay cut to come here, and he defense is superb.  Even his ball handling is very good.  He's clearly a top 2 or three powerforward in the league at this time. There are very few players we could trade him for an still be where we are. "

1. he cant shoot threes
2. i dont know if 23,750,000 is a pay cut or next years of 24,750,000... he just restructed. a pay cut is what duncan is doing.

kg is the number one paid player this year...

dont forget to give clifford ray his props... i would think he is working with perk more so than kg. just ask dwight howard about cliff's value.

---That's largely why the Magic front office has shifted gears, though one of the moves isn't sitting well with Dwight Howard. Along with Davis , management dumped assistant coach Clifford Ray, the former NBA big man who had become Howard's mentor.

"He was like a father to me off the court," Dwight Howard said. "On the court, he taught me so much about playing the game at this level. He gave me a chance to make mistakes, then he would take the time to explain to me what I did wrong and help correct them. I'm still upset they got rid of him, but it's a new staff that's going in a different direction." ---

Unfortunately, as has been the case throughout his career, people always want more.  More, more, more.

It's an interesting look into eras.  Bill Russell achieved legendary status despite never being a go-to offensive player... and that's totally fine, because it's a team game and he did a ton to help his team win.  KG plays a similar role, with more offensive success than Russell ever had, and about 95% of the media is criticizing him.  Just the way the game, media, fans, etc have changed over time.

In that famous 1969 game 7 in LA, where the balloons had to stay in the rafters, Bill Russell scored 6 points. ...Six points. It is a different era of media scrutiny for sure.

That being said I think KG is going to bring a bit more juice to this next game.

At the start of the 2009 season, KG's pay drops to about $16M http://hoopshype.com/salaries/boston.htm .  That year the highest paid player will be either Duncan or Kobe (unless he opts out).
Celtics fan for life.

oh i am well aware it drops down to 16 million in two years but it climbs back up, my point is dont come in here acting like he is a saint for taking 'less money'. That less money is 4 mil below his average of 20mil a year (which 99% of the professional athletes would die for)

We can sit here all day debating who makes how much and whether they should be praised or criticized for "only" taking $16 mil or $10 mil but that's a larger issue in itself.  The way players are paid today KG deserves the money he is making based on market value and there are a decent amount of players out there who wouldn't take any pay cut regardless of how it helped their winning situation.

I'm glad KG's guarding Gasol, the soft pansy.  He should be.

My problem with KG are all the long, fade-away 2's when he's not hitting them.

DRIVE TO THE BASKET FOR GODSAKE, KEVIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
