ESPN.com article on Sir Charles needing to pay back the Wynn Las Vegas resort 400K or hes going to charged with a felony.  Man, i think too many professional athletes become degenrate gamblers over their careers, they must throw away so much many, i find it ridiculous. I heard about rondos blog a while back, how he lost a whole crap load of it, not a good habit to start because it can become a disease.

  • TRANSFORMATION INTO CHAMPION COMPLETE!!!
I think a lot of them miss the adrenaline rush of competition, and supplant it with a gambling hobby/habit/addiction. Indeed it is something, that if not curtailed, will quickly rob even the richest of his means.

It is indeed a dangerous sickness.  Charles is by far not the only professional athlete who is facing this issue, it's very dangerous.  (hopefully this doesn't become a moralistic thread)
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love my kids - call me a sap, it's true.

My experience with gambling has been that I get the same rush playing poker  with my friends for a buck or two as I do for playing for larger amounts in a casino (not in Charles' league by any stretch).  But there definitely is a rush that can't be simulated - which is why it's so dangerously addictive.

Degenerate?  Is he hurting you in some manner by gambling?  Let the man do what he wants with what he's earned.  You are in no position to be a judge.

"It's not a 'problem' because I can afford to lose money".

Sports wouldn't be as big as they are today if it weren't for Vegas and gambling.  Ask David Stern, Tim Donaghy, and friends.  Ask Tim Duncan and Joey Crawford.  Ask Marc Cuban, Shaq, and Dwayne Wade.  Ask Bud Selig or Pete Rose.  Ask Tagliabue, Goddell, Belichek, and the like.

Partaking in gambling is not a degenerate act - rigging the outcome of sporting events, however, is.
God bless and good night!

Beat me to what I was going to say.  TP for giving me less typing to do and sharing the same opinion.   :P

Amen.  And may I add that owning a franchise is in itself a gamble!

Sir Charles has always had way more than his share of fun and handled it (I lived in Philly while he was with the Sixers).  I expect he can handle the $400K debt as well.  It's up to him how to use his money, and until he comes to me asking for a handout it really isn't my concern.
