This is why you never start a thread about officiating. There are always going to be 2 sides of the story.
A Boston fan sees Garnett get pushed every time down the court, I see Garnett pushing off on just about every rebound he gets.
You can find fouls on just about every play, the officials have been calling the game pretty consistently...that's all you can ask for.
Look for Lebron to get the calls tomorrow night that Pierce got last night. Lebron is the one who will be able to be out of control and get a blocking foul called while Pierce will probably get a no call in the same situation. I am not saying it is right, its just the way it is.
Thank you Mac, a sane voice.
Hey, I'm a Celtic fan. I love me my Celtics. But there's a time to be a homer and a time to be objective. I didn't say the refs were great. All I was trying to say is they were consistent and miles better than they were in the first three games and during the Atlanta series.
As for this:
OK, you're stretching it a bit here on these calls that supposedly favored the C's. Forget for a moment your misinterpretation about "position needing to be established" for an offensive to be called, or your lack of understanding about the circle and how no charge can be called there, there will NEVER, EVER be a foul in any NBA game on a drive where a player has the ball blocked/stripped away and then goes in with air to finish the drive and makes body contact with another challenging defender. If, Delonte would not have been blocked but gone in with the ball against KG, he may have in fact gotten a foul, but once that ball is gone, the rest is all incidental contact. That kind of play is called consistently throughout the league. To refer to this as an example of a call that went the Celtics way, is a bit much.
First, those examples were far from stretching it.
On the offensive, Pierce was not squared up, clearly arriving at the position first nor was he established in his position. The offensive was called for Lebron pushing off with his lead arm, which was bogus because he barely touched Pierce when Pierce threw himself onto the floor.
So there's no misinterpretation.
Second, when did I mention anything about fouls in the circle under the basket? I didn't.
And since I never did, how can you comment on my misunderstanding of calls in that area. Pierce's foul on his out of control move in the fourth didn't occur anywhere near the circle so you must not be commenting on that play.
And you are dead wrong about the play where Delonte was blocked by Rondo. Fouls are called all the time on blocked shots where another person fouls the shooter in the act of shooting. All the time. Just because it appeared as if Rondo stripped the ball from Delonte doesn't mean that everything else is incidental. Watch the replay West had just started his jump for the layup when Rondo's hand hit the top of the ball for a block. But West was still in the act of shooting and KG bodied him badly which is an obvious foul.
And a shot that is blocked where another player besides the blocker makes contact with the shooter results in a foul called almost all the time.
I mean, how many times have we as fans screamed about how the Celtics had cleanly blocked a shot only to have a foul called on another player during the shot. It happens all the time.
