Look at the bigs we will have to get by to win a championship the next 3-5 years

KAT
Embiid
Wymby
Holmgren

Giannis is a necessity for the rest of Tatums prime imo. They are a much better fit than Brown and Giannis would be together

We can swap and trade and sign free agents and draft and rebuild or not rebuild and bring Vuce back or not and keep Brown or trade for a different star ...... whatever.

Until the Celts replace Mazzulla with a competent head coach, the roster adjustments will not win us another title.
If Stevens cannot see this, he needs to go as well. Get some pro grownups in here to run this franchise.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett - Tatum

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce - Brown

I have never seen Giannis play Wemby. Does he play well against him? I could see Wemby's shot blocking as a help defender disrupting Giannis' driving game.

Not worried about KAT or Chet. They are not top level players. Embiid we can get by with a solid one-on-one defender (maybe Queta will be that in the future). Not worried about him either.

Wemby is a problem though. Not sure they can do anything about that though. There are no good matchups / solutions for him.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Now we have Vuc's $21m coming off the books (he was a $30m cap hold until he re-signs with us or someone else) and without him we would be at $187m, which is $13m below the tax line and $21m below the first apron. And we have the Simons TPE which is $27m. So those are the substantial things Brad can manipulate - he can re-sign Vuc for a lower number and then use some of that Simons TPE to get a big, a ball handler, or both, knowing that if he wants to stay under the tax all 3 have to be no more than $13m. Then we should have our non taxpayer MLE as well (I think $15m). But if we use all of it we get hardcapped at the first apron which I'm sure Brad won't want to do, especially since he wants to be under the luxury tax.

Of course we could ship out some of the forum pinatas too (like Jaylen  ). It just needs to all be under $200m which I think the luxury tax line will be next season.

I wonder if they could trade Sam Hauser ($10.85mil) and try to bring A Simons back. Keep Vooch at a lower number. It would be a tight squeeze. Allow Scheierman, J Walsh, Hugo to replace Hauser as the backup wing / forward.

G: Pritchard, A Simons
G: D White, Scheierman
F: Jaylen, J Walsh
F: Tatum, Hugo
C: Queta, Vucevic

It doesn't look like there is any other moveable salary other than Hauser. The rest are the core pieces of Tatum, Jaylen, D White and the bargain contract of Pritchard. Hauser looks to only viable candidate to move to free up more cash to spend.

I am assuming both Vucevic and A Simons are looking at MLE type money in FA. Oooh, starting salary for the MLE is now $14mil. Moving Hauser would leave only $24mil to spend. Tight. Not good.

Keep in mind that the option to do what we did this year at the deadline will exist as well. We traded Minott, Boucher, and Tillman and cleared approximately $8M in salary. We then used 10 day and rookie contracts to fill out the roster for much less. That $13M is more like $20M in practical terms.

That obviously doesn't include trading Brown, White, and/or Hauser for players making less salary

Unfortunately, I expect nothing change and the Cs run it back as it.

I see Portland being linked with Giannis.

I was wondering what they have to offer and the article made the point that POR owns MIL's first rounders in 2028, 2029, 2030. So they can give MIL back control of it's own future. Allow them to rebuild properly through the draft. Tank.

They were saying POR is using Jerami Grant's contract as a cap makeweight. I am not sure what else they would be offering. The article did not say. I have to belief POR is keeping Clingan and Avdija off the table. That they will want to pair Giannis with Clingan. So I am guessing a Scoot Henderson & Shaedon Sharpe in addition to the Bucks picks and some POR picks.

=========

On another note, I wonder how good a fit Giannis is next to Avdija and Clingan.

Clingan is the best offensive rebounder in the league. He is so dominant in the offensive boards. You want him in the paint. Yes he can shoot a 3 but you don't want him spending all his time out there to allow Giannis do his thing inside.

Avdija and Giannis seem duplicative. Both are high level slashers who are great driving at a defense but weak in terms of jump-shooting. They want to take the spots on the court. I wonder if they get in each other's way. If there is too much duplication.

Then you are reliant on an old Jrue Holiday in the backcourt without much else in the backcourt if you have to give up Scoot & Sharpe. Probably not a title contender. Maybe if they can fix up the backcourt enough but that is a big "if".

I keep seeing people suggest Jaylen, but what are other teams offering? From what I recall, the "best" offer MIL got for Giannis was Ware + Herro + picks. That's not much IMO. Maybe another team comes knocking or becomes desperate if something happens (like the Knicks don't reach the Finals, or the Rockets are willing to ship off Sengun) but otherwise I would see how it unfolds.

What scares me a little with Giannis too is, he's dealt with calf issues the past year. Seem ominous?
