I doubt that they are having regrets.  They may be sweating cash flow for the first season or two, but the value of this franchise is going nowhere but up.  Seeing Tatum go down no doubt didn't help with the worries but a sports franchise is about as safe a place to put your money as there is.

They were getting under the second apron in any case.  They came right out and said this.  If they decide to cut further just for the sake of getting under the tax threshold, that I see as unnecessary, especially if it impacts their ability to spend again for the 2026-27 team.  I will see it as short-sighted, for example, if they do things that hard cap themselves at the first apron.  If they go this route, it will be fair game for everyone who likes to howl about how cheap the new owners are (same ones that complained about the old owners too).

Eh.  Getting below the luxury tax doesn't really limit their ability to spend next season any more than *not* getting below the tax impacts their ability to spend next year.

If they want to use the full MLE and the TPEs, they'll be hard-capped at the first apron, regardless of where we fall in relation to the tax this year.

They've got $29 million in space below the first apron next year.  What better option is there than using the MLE and a chunk of the TPE to upgrade the team (along with a draft pick)?

It sounds like Chisholm didn't have the money to pay the full amount when he was sold the Celtics.  I think he owns 15% which is the largest stake.

As a fan, I think many of us wanted a rich owner, willing to spend to stay in contention.    I can see the logic shredding salary with Tatum out.  But the stuff with the governorship seems petty.     I guess it is Karma for WYC spurnning Steve Pagliuca.  Wyc was not going to be governor if he did bought the team and now he is the assistant governor instead of Governor.  Steve Pagliuca can get a break it would seem first NBA now WNBA.
