Luka gives up almost as many points on def as he generates.   I don't know how he is considered a top 5 player in the NBA.

I agree .

Same for current old LeBron.  When you subtract the poor defense . They each need to score a solid 30 for the Lakers to have a chance .

How does Dallas reach the finals last year if Luka isn?t there.  Maybe there are five better players, but not many more.

Admittedly I haven?t watched much Steph Curry lately, but I?m surprised there isn?t more love for him on this thread. Of all the older Super Stars (LeBron, Durant, Davis etc) he?s the one that is healthiest and lifts his team the most. He seems more likely to single handedly win games. Take him away from a team, struggles abound.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
1. Jokic
2. Gilgeous-Alexander
3. Giannis
4. Doncic
5. Tatum

At this point, i'd still be more worried against Doncic in a series than Edwards. Maybe that'll change in the next couple years.

I still think Edwards has tremendous upside and won't be surprised if when it's all said and done he's the 3rd best shooting guard of all-time. That's how good the dude is.
I don't know how anyone can have Luka ahead of Tatum at this point.  Tatum may not be Luka's equal in terms of shooting or an offensive engine but he's not that far behind at this point and his rebounding/defense leaves Luka in the dust.

Not to turn this into a Luka vs. Doncic debate, I just think that if I?m going into a must win game 7 game, I?d rather have Luka.

FWIW, Luka is 1-1 in Game 7s while Tatum is 5-2 with one of those losses occurring where he got hurt on the first play of the game.

People still use that argument to put LeBron, Durant, Kawhi, and Steph over Tatum. As if Tatum hasn?t proven himself in game 7s.

And besides, that?s not how it works. Players have to play games. They don?t just magically show up healthy to play their best in game 7s.

At this point I don't even have Luka ranked until maybe 7 or 8 the highest. Defense to me does matter a bit and Luka offers none of it. He's been heavily exposed his last two playoff series, and I think teams are now adjusting well. It's similar criticism Harden got in his Rockets days especially come postseason, although even Harden was actually putting up more historic numbers in terms of scoring. And Harden today is at least a little better on that end, decent enough.
