Memphis Grizzlies

Receive: Michael Porter Jr

Denver Nuggets

Receive: Desmond Bane

Memphis need another reliable scorer, wing size and three point shooting. With the emergence of Wells, the loss of Bane would not be as painful.

Denver need elite guard depth, as Murray will always be a health risk.

I rate Bane a good step above MPJ at this point.

Offensively, I think Bane has an advantage in that he is better at creating his own shot than MPJ is. MPJ relies more on team offense to get his looks from. Bane also has more ball-handling and passing ability than MPJ. So a good advantage offensively for Bane over MPJ.

Defensively, Bane is a solid defender. Not the quickest or most dynamic athlete but good size with good strength and plays with commitment on D. Solid defender. MPJ unfortunately is still a below average defensive player. Perhaps a well below average defensive player. So again, a good advantage for Bane.

So I would see this as lopsided in Denver's favour.

Jason Timpf was talking about an MPJ trade idea to Minnesota for Jaden McDaniels. I think that is closer to MPJ's trade value.

His idea was based on Denver needing more defense alongside Jokic. That he believes A Gordon's recent strong offensive performances to close the season are legit and that they will therefore allow DEN to put alongside a dodgy offensive player like J McDaniels next to him whereas in the past A Gordon was dodgy himself and could only play next to highly skilled offensive forwards. So take advantage of that individual growth in A Gordon and get better team balance by swapping MPJ for a defensive SF.

Minnesota is a very strong defensive team already and without McDaniels and could likely incorporate MPJ while still remaining a quality defensive squad. MPJ would give them a lights out shooter next to Ant and make them more dynamic offensively.

Here is a Bane trade idea -- to NYC for Mikal Bridges

Memphis gets a more talented more athletic defensive wing who has a solid (but lesser) offensive game (16-18ppg).

New York gets a more dynamic scoring wing who gives them some secondary playmaking to help make their offense more balanced / team orientated less reliant on the individualism of Jalen Brunson. Mikal Bridges has been a disappointment for them. Bane would be a nice alternative.
