Can't imagine the Celtics would blow up the core of a back to back NBA championship team.

Of course. That?s the equivalent of asking if you?d trade Isaiah Thomas for Steph Curry in 2016.

That's what it comes down to for me.  If we win B2B, we need to keep the core together no matter what.

For the last 5 seasons prior to this one, Giannis has averaged 65 games.  He is on pace to play 64 this season.  This is his 12th season.  In those prior 5 seasons, he has been pretty steady at about 30 points and 12 rebs every season.  This season he is putting up 31.5 and 12.1.

He is a dominant player currently and projects to continue to be dominant for the foreseeable future, maybe 5 seasons?  And after that, in his later 30's, he will still probably be good.  He is 30, Brown is 28.

I see no scenario where you don't make this trade if it were on the table (which it never would be).  Back to back, three-peat, whatever:

Holiday
White
Tatum
Giannis
Porzingis

That line up starts to rival Johnson, Ainge, Bird, McHale, Parish.  It is true that Giannis doesn't shoot the 3 all that well but because Porzingis can, it wouldn't matter.  Durability would be the only hesitation.  You would have 2 bigs that require minutes management.  But in a way, it gives you more redundancy and flexibility to work around it when one or the other is out.  It gives the team more options to deal with it, not less.

So one thing i do think its worth considering is Brown is under team control for four more years after this one, Giannis is under team control for just two. That does matter somewhat.

That said while i love Jaylen Brown there are like maybe like 5 total players i'd trade him for, and Giannis is one of them.

Giannis, Jokic, Wemby, SGA and Edwards and thats it.

That said this deal would never happen. if the Bucks decide to trade Giannis they are going to go full rebuild, they aren't trading him for another star who will be stuck on an aging roster with limited assets and almost immediately demand a trade. It just doesn't make sense for them.

I think Giannis would extend here in a heartbeat.  That would not deter me for doing this trade.  I agree with your list for the most part, I don't like Edwards though.  How about a few others, Luka?  Karl-Anthony Towns?  Adebayo?  Booker? (you heard that one a lot in the past).  How about Mobley?

I agree, it is a pretty short list, and probably none that would realistically happen, but it is fun to speculate.

With the new owners coming in and the massive tax implications this is going to happen no matter what.  One of the big contracts will need to go.  I would also not be surprised if Hauser is traded if Baylor shows any development to be able to replace him.  Getting under the 2nd apron will most likely be the new ownerships top priority.  Signing Jrue to that extension was probably not the best move due to his age and the highly unlikely scenario that they can move that deal to any team.

I doubt we will see any fireworks like this just movement on assets to get under the 2nd apron and hopefully bringing in younger cheaper talent.  That is probably going to be the new owners demand to Brad.

Giannis just turned 30 years old in December.
Jaylen turned 28 in October.

So only 2 years difference. I thought it might have been more.

I don't think this will necessarily happen.  The new ownership group would face a ton of criticism and bad will if they came in and immediately broke up a team going for a threepeat.  If they do repeat this year, the best course of action may be to write it out for another season, thanking on a combination of increased revenue and a rising salary cap.

Luka is a yes, I'd do that trade. His conditioning worries me but he's still an elite offensive guy.
Towns is a no. Adebayo is a hell no. Booker is a no, Mobley is a maybe.  All of those are lateral moves. If I'm trading Brown it has to be for a guy who is clearly on another level to him, none of those guys are. Edwards/Mobley might not be either, but both are younger.

Personally I'd trade Jaylen for Sabonis if that opportunity presented itself

Of course.

Jaylen?s great, but Giannis is considered better than Tatum and he?s not really that old.

Besides, this team goes how Tatum goes. He is by far the most important player. Brown had a great ECF and Finals, so that makes the decision a little tougher, but it Giannis. Yes, definitely

Of all the optioned ever mentioned for Brown, I dislike the Sabonis one the most. He is MASSIVELY overrated. Doesn't stretch the floor, bad in space on defense, doesn't provide rim protection. He's just not a winning players. Classic example of guy who puts up numbers without impacting winning. 82 game player, not a 16 game player.
