Sadly, I think this is all posturing on the part of the Blazers to squeeze best offer out of Heat, and he will be on the Heat before the start of next season.  Riley has too much at stake here not to make this trade happen.  They have the assets, just haven't played all their cards yet.

idk, this came direct from the league. don't really think its just posturing on the blazers part. The only reason Miami was the only team offering anything was because of Dame/his agent telling other teams he wouldnt play or show up or would be disgruntled.

and for the league to say Dame told them he will report and play for whatever team trades for him should open up the offers. I mean this isn't like a player who has 1 year on his deal who could theoretically not resign and you traded for nothing.

its a guy who has 4 years on his deal. I think the NBA wants to nip this in the bud now before it becomes a trend. Guys wanting their cake and to eat it too. realizing the most money is to be made with re-signing with your own team and then requesting a trade a year later. that goes against the whole purpose of these "extensions" and i'm sure alot of smaller market teams (and bigger ones who are not destinations) are watching the situation closely because if the NBA doesn't stop dame now. they are next.

Now, do some real digging into communications between the Heat and the agent.

Want to stop this?  Pass a rule that all teams and agents can't delete their texts / emails / communications or throw away phones / laptops for a year, and give league investigators the equivalent of subpoena power.

That rule effectively exists.  Also, no communication is allowed via apps that can delete sent messages (such as Telegram).  They beefed up those rules after the 2019 offseason when a lot of funny business was going on.

Can teams lie? Sure.  But the NBA does have the authority to demand any and all communications/look at devices.

NBA should've done  this with AD3 to Lakers back then.

AD was fined by the league $50k for his agent making a public trade demand to the Fakers, which was 0.2% of his $25m salary at the time. So to @bdm860's point, not sure how much teeth those fines really have to deter scofflaws, other than to make it clear that someone is contravening the rules.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

So did the league do this mini investigation due to complaints by teams?

I assume Adam Silver signed off on it to make sure the blogs had something to talk about.
