Bill's number was retired across the league last year, but Lebron (and anyone else wearing 6) were grandfathered in.  Lebron is changing back to 23 now to respect the retired number and as an honor to Bill.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

He’s probably just doing it to get the Lakers to retire both his jersey numbers.

and absolutely nothing to do with trying to keep his name in the NBA news cycle.

A lot of people thought it was disrespectful to Bill when he switched to 6 when he went to Miami after saying the league needs to honor Jordan and retire 23 league wide

I was one of those people, and still am.

He's just doing it because whatever team he signs with after the Lakers won't be able to offer him #6 regardless.  Lebron plans ahead, haha.

What he is doing at his age is incredible but then he makes it so hard to root for him with his fake retirement after being swept, hijacking the only espys and whatever this is

When LeBron joined the Heat, he and Wade attempted to have #23 retired league-wide, since they couldn't both wear it on the Heat.

When AD came to LA, Lebron offered to give #23 to AD. Later, deferring to Nike (and others?), giving #23 to AD was delayed until after the season because there was so much LeBron #23 merchandise in the sales channels.

This was the perfect opportunity for LeBron to make good on his offer to AD, and honor Jordan, but he did not take advantage of either opportunity. AD has, no doubt, noticed.

Not that this matters, really, but it's worth noting that the Heat retired 23 in 2003, before Lebron entered the league. James did say something about how 23 should be retired around the league, but that was in 2009, before he joined Miami (although he did say it after a game in Miami, which is a fun footnote).

Wade very famously wore number 3 as a tribute to AI, as well - and while 23 was never an option in Miami, he also wore it at Marquette, where 23 is not retired.

This feels like a very 'late offseason' discussion.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.
