I’m not sure who has been the leader but feels that maybe JB is starting to claim the title based off of actions both on the court and off. I have sort of felt this way since last year’s finals run. I think is more naturally gifted/talented skills wise but JB has the fire and has taken multiple jumps in his career. JB shows up in big games. He did the entire “energy is about to shift” thing last year. He’s been their most consistent go to scorer in the playoffs. Maybe it’s his last evolution to be the guy.

I can’t recall how old he was at the time, but do you remember Paul Pierce going through a phase of studying leadership - trying to learn to be a leader?  I think some people come by it naturally, some understand the role and embrace it. Others learn over time - and I believe leadership skills can be learned and enhanced over time.  I’m looking forward to seeing how JT and JB grow (or not) into leaders.  I do think some people think you got it or you ain’t. But  I think there are those who become.

I'd say it's a mix of Smart, Tatum, and Brown.

Smart is the "vocal and emotional" leader.

Brown is the "get on my back I'm going to raise our energy and physicality for a stretch or a game" leader.

Tatum is the "steady, quiet, lead by example, be the best player but not be too much of a diva to defend, pass, or play within the team concept" leader.

Would it be a little easier if Tatum had a little more of that MJ/Kobe/Bird killer instinct leadership mentality? Yes, probably. But, as is, I think we lead by committee a bit more, and Tatum can still function as a leader just a bit more in the Duncan/Curry mold.

Think this is pretty spot on. TP.
This is pretty good.

I do also think the idea of a sole leader of a team is overblown. I think very few successful teams actually have one leader. Pierce needed KG's energy and KG needed Pierce's focus. Jordan needed the steadiness of Bill Cartwright to temper his maniacal drive. Curry and Draymond seem to both be leaders in GS in complimentary ways. I think Havlicek and Cowens had a similar dynamic to Pierce/Garnett and Curry/Draymond.

I think it's a lot more common to have multiple players lead in different situations than it is to have someone like Bird or Russell who leads the way.
